Bleeding

I wonder if anyone could give me advise. I’m on cerrazette contraceptive pill, you take it every day and don’t have periods. I have been in it for 12 years. In 2011 I had a bleed which lasted a week I went to doctors they examined me and said everything looked fine and it was probable a breakthrough bleed. It stopped and didn’t happen again till 2014 same thing one week then stopped. Anyway I’ve started again it’s not heavy not enough to get onto a towel and only when I go toilet and wipe (sorry this is gross char) but I’ve had some lots??? Not having a period for such along time I don’t know if this is normal? My smears are up to date and am not due one till next year. I’m in no pain. Any advice would be welcome I’ve told myself I will go doctors Monday coming if it hasn’t stopped but you can’t stop the worrying

  • I've just come across this post as I'm experiencing breakthrough bleeding after being on cerezztte for 7 years. I'm wondering if it's hormone changes as I have also had a lot of spots under my chin. I've been debating whether to come off altogether but worried my periods may be heavy. But these posts have really eased my worries. Thank you

  • hi ive been on cerrazette for 15 years and am very happy with it. i have had 3 incidents of breakthrough bleeding, which came to nothing. doctor was only concerned if the bleeding continued for weeks, which it didnt. it literally lasted the length of a period. just keep an eye on it, but if you do feel concerned go and see your doctor. i went into huge anxiety over it so i know what a worry it can be, when you see blood. its well know that cerazette can cause problems. as can many other pills. doesnt take much for your hormones to go wonky for a chort period of time. hope this helps. xxx

  • Just come across this post. I've been on cerazette for about 10 years more or less and never bleed. Had 2 kids and each time I've gone back on cerazette with no issues. I stopped bf my 2nd baby (now 15months and went back on at my 6 week pp check) in September. Since 9th November I've now had 3 periods and am really confused and a little worried! Have a fairly heavy period for about 5 days, then off for about 4/5 days then suddenly start again. No warning. I'm due to have a smear test anyway on Monday so will speak to the nurse but it's really starting to worry me.....

  • Hello!

been reading this thread with interest as I have been taking Cerazette for 12 months exactly and this is the first time I haven't had a regular period on it!! So whilst I recommend getting in touch with GP obviously, I just wanted to reassure you that for the last 12 months that I have been on it, I have had regular periods up till now.
I'm ringing the GP today to just get a check up too!! Good luck x

  • I have read this thread because I have suddenly started bleeding too. Been on Cerazette for 6. 5 years. Always had a little spotting, not worth using any sanitary products - I just used panty pads. But in October and now, I have had a more 'period' like bleed. In October it lasted about a week, was red with some clotting. It started again yesterday and is similar. I am almost 51, so I am wondering if it's hormonal and I am peri-menopausal. This thread has reassured me that it's probably normal, but I might go and see the Dr to check.

  • Hi, I am so glad I have come across this post. I have been on cerezette and apart from the occasional spot I don't have a period. However over the past year I have have had week long bleeds (again not enough for a pad but when I wipe) that have been intermittent. I can have a month of every other week having spotting bleeds and then months of nothing. I'm due to have a scan to get everything over but I'll be honest when the dr suggested a scan I immediately thought there's going to be a problem and I won't be able to have children (I'm 29). I feel much better after reading all these threads though. Like you say it's the anxiety that does it. That and never knowing if I'm going to have a bleed!

  • hi. i think your doing the right thing going through your gp and having a scan, although very daunting , we can all sit here and second guess whats going on with our bodies. i have read so much about the contraceptive pill having these issues, so its more than likely your bleeding/spotting is due to this, its a fine balance with your hormones and doesnt take much for them to be upset and have break through bleeding. but even though i worry to the point of distraction going to the scan will put your mind at rest and you can take it from there. please let us know how you get on xxxx

  • Thanks so much for replying. I think you're right. If I think of when I've had the bleeding it's usually when I'm dieting so I'm hoping it's that which is upsetting my hormone levels. I will do xx

  • Hi I have an underactive thyroid and I'm on 150 a day I've been on the contraceptive injection for 20+ years and swapped to the implant in my arm 6years ago never had periods at all but started abnormal bleeding last year sept 19 and only when I wipe too I have now Thursday last week started to have constant back and abdo pain and I'm passing urine more too went to Gp today and now awaiting Ct scan and bloods as last smear was clear so I'm in same boat unsure if this is thyroid related

  • Hi, I have had my ultrasound and got the results back today. Apart from a very small cyst everything looks ok! Thank goodness lol. The dr doesn't really know what's causing the bleeding but there's no explanation so is putting it down to the cerazette. Unfortunately I can go on the combined pill due to my migraines so I now have the choice of staying on it and hoping it settles or coming off. But the main thing is I'm all clear! Thanks again for all your help and support
