Breast lump with dull arm ache... is this normal?

Hi everyone,

This forum has been really helpful to me from finding a lump to having my appointment and needle biopsy. My question that i have that I can’t seem to find an answer to is, has anyone else experienced a horrible dull ache in the arm that is the same side as the lump? This has been happening more over the last two weeks and I also get the same dull ache in my lower leg on the same side. Also (probably has nothing to do with it) but a weak feeling and heavy feeling at the back/base of my head. I’m trying not to look too much into it but as its all the same side as the lump, I’m starting to panic. They said biopsy results should be 2-3 weeks. Will I find out sooner if it’s not good news? I’m 37 with 3 children and am finding it hard to act normal and not show I’m panicked about something x

  • Hi Jolamine,

Thank you for your reply. I have my ultrasound on Friday 18th Feb, so not too much longer to wait. Hopefully it won't be anything too bad, but yes it is reassuring to know that breast cancer is very treatable. My grandmother has just been told she is cancer free after having a mastectomy, chemo and radiotherapy so it is reassuring to know that it can be beaten.

I would also like to say Jolamine, that everything you do on here and all the support you give is so inspiring and I'm sure I dont just speak for myself when I say that it is so greatly appreciated.

I will of course let you know how I get on, and hopefully I will be coming to you with some good news. Thank you again.

  • Hi Tunia,

Thanks so much for your reply.

Yes I think trying to keep busy and occupying the mind is probably the most helpful thing we can all do right now.

I really hope that your appointment on Tuesday goes well and do let us know how you get on.

Thinking of everyone going through these difficult times and sending hugs to anyone who may need them!

  • Hello everyone,

I'm waiting for my breast clinic appointment on the 23rd. I'm 41, my birthday is 3 days after my appointment. Don't feel like having a party anymore.

    My symptoms are:

Lump in left breast, small, feels like it hides as can't find it each time but it's definitely there, doctor felt it. Hurts to touch and breast feels achey.

Constant tingling/dull ache in arm with the same in my hand, I have also had shooting pains in the outer edges of my hand.

Swelling above collarbone on left side, no lump. Right side is now feeling slightly swollen

Armpit on left side feels slightly swollen. No lump.

My Grandma had Breast cancer in her late 70's and i think my Dad's Mum died of it too.

I'm petrified. I have 4 children and I'm constantly fearing that I'm going to leave them with broken hearts if I die. We're supposed to be renovating our house, going on holiday, making plans. My husband wants to retire, go to Italy and eat pasta and drink wine......with me or his next wife? He'll forget me.

    So scared.

  •  Kayleigh,

It is good to hear that you don't have much longer to wait. I am delighted to hear that your grandmother is now cancer free.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I got some great help from people on this site when I was first diagnosed and I try to support thoe who are struggling with their diagnoses, as I was then.

I shall be thinking of you next Friday and, I hope that all goes well.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi MrsHplus5,

You are doing the right thing by getting this investigated. Not all breast lumps are cancerous. Some women just have naturally lumpy breast, whilst others have benign cysts, fibrous or hormonal changes. I felt just as worried as you when I was first diagnosed 12 years ago. Since then I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer. I have also seen my children leave school, go to university, graduate, find gainful employment, marry and have families of their own. I continue to live a busy and fulfilling life.

It is unusual to have pain associated with breast cancer. I sincerely hope that all goes well for you on 23rd. Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Kayleigh did they no do a ultrasound on your breast clinic appointment I got my ultrasound on the day and told on the day am just thinking why they haven't done nothing for me as my arm is still tingling and painful but I have just signed up to another gp and have a appointment soon so will discuss it with them also I wouldn't worry as I made my self sick sitting up till 4am Googling and poking and prodding for lumps and bumps and just over thinking finding symptoms that wasn't even related or half the time not even there so just try not to worry I hope it's just cysts as there is a lot of other lumps that don't come under the C word ! Xx

  • Hi Dolly,

Unfortunately they did not do an ultrasound on the same day as my breast clinic appointment. They referred me for this and it's a 5 week wait since my initial breast clinic appointment, which is not ideal.

I am trying not to obsess over it as I know that won't be helpful and knowing how powerful the mind can be, it can just exacerbate the symptoms. For now I am just taking ibuprofen and paracetamol to help with the pain and just counting down the days until Friday, in which I hope I will get some answers.

Hope that your appointment with a new GP also gives you some answers too. It can be so frustrating.

Let me know how you get on.

  • It must be hard waiting and they give me a ultrasound on the same day as my appointment they should really do that everywere if they have the room there yeah I would try and just put it to the back of your mind even tho it's the hardest thing to do but am sure you will be fine keep us updated with your results and we're all here to talk if u need us the C word isn't normally painful so that gives us some type of hope x
