Breast lump with dull arm ache... is this normal?

Hi everyone,

This forum has been really helpful to me from finding a lump to having my appointment and needle biopsy. My question that i have that I can’t seem to find an answer to is, has anyone else experienced a horrible dull ache in the arm that is the same side as the lump? This has been happening more over the last two weeks and I also get the same dull ache in my lower leg on the same side. Also (probably has nothing to do with it) but a weak feeling and heavy feeling at the back/base of my head. I’m trying not to look too much into it but as its all the same side as the lump, I’m starting to panic. They said biopsy results should be 2-3 weeks. Will I find out sooner if it’s not good news? I’m 37 with 3 children and am finding it hard to act normal and not show I’m panicked about something x

    Hi Kingsbury,

    Welcome to our forum.

The majority of us on this site are not doctors. We are merely cancer patients who can speak from our own personal experience.

The mammogram that your wife had should have shown up whether or not there were any lumps present in her breast. If there had been any suspicious lesions, a biopsy would have been carried out on that particular area.

Has your wife been discharged? If so, it sounds as if she has been one of the lucky ones.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine

    Hi McFi,

Thank you for your update. I am so glad to hear that you are feeling so much better since your breast was drained and you were put on an antibiotic.

You must be immensely relieved to be given the all clear. I am absolutely delighted for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi,

A red hot raised lump has appeared top of my right breast under my armpit. I can feel a lump the size of a grape and it looks like a bite. I also had a rash in my arm pit a few days before it appeared.

My arm and shoulder became very weak a month ago and I had an ultrasound which showed inflammation in my shoulder and elbow.  I am 47 and have never had a breast/mamagram. I have 4 boys 24, 20, 18, 9.

I am hoping it's not linked and just a cyst? But been googling what it could be?

Making an appointment monday with my GP. Will keep you posted.

    Dylianna,

Welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear about your lump. You are doing the right thing in going to see your GP in the first instance. Explain to the receptionist that you need an urgent appointment and why. Try not to google things at the moment. There are so many different things that could cause this. You will probably find the most spectacular causes on google and scare yourself rigid, when there could be a very simple solution.

Do please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Thanks for your kind response.

She noticed a 2cm lump over a week ago, we paid and went to a private clinic who carried out a mammogram which shows that there is a hard lump not soft. It's left us with more questions then answers until the biopsy. The pain has gone behind her ear.

  • Thank Jolamine,

I went to my GP today and he said it's a cyst due to an infected hair follicle? He gave me antibiotics and I need to go back in 2 weeks if it's not gone. In terms of my shoulder and arm the ultrasound showed lots inflammation. So having Cortisone injections when the Cyst as gone

    Hi Mepam,

Welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear that you have a breast lump. It is impossible to tell you what treatment you will get, as all cancers and individual traits are particular to the individual.

You will be told what type and grade of cancer you have on Monday. By the time you see your consultant on Monday s/he will possibly have held an MDT (multidisciplinary team) meeting. Here they will have discussed your treatment, so your consultant should be able to tell you of their decision at your meeting.

Are you bringing someone with you to your appointment? This is always a good idea. Also, it is useful to write any questions you have down, so that you don't forget them.

Do please let us know how you get on on Monday. We are always here for you.

Will be thinking of you and praying for a good result.

    Kind regards,
