Anyone??? I’m so worried the not knowing is driving me mad

Hi try not to worry too much wen I got my ultrasound scan  my lymph nodes showed up swollen so just waiting to go back to hospital on Wednesday to see the consultant I find it strange that your lump didn’t show up but u can still feel it that’s mayb y he wants the mri scan done to go in deeper to see what’s going on it’s probably nothing serious as I think it would hav  shown something in your ultrasound hope all goes well for u keep me up to date how u get on x

I should start by saying that I'm not a doctor and I'm not an expert on the physics of scans. 

If the lump didn't show up on the U/S, then it implies that it has the same sound reflective properties as the surrounding tissue. By itself, this is somewhat reassuring but it leaves open the question of what the lump might actually be.

The MRI scanner works on an entirely different principle, and when combined with a gadolinium contrast agent is likely to provide the answer you need. I went through this myself at the beginning of this year. I had 4-5 scans (each lasting 4 minutes), then I was briefly removed from the machine, given an injection of gadolinium and put back in for a further 2 scans. It wasn't the most pleasant 30 minutes of my life, but I consoled myself with a cup of coffee and a cake at the hospital coffee shop when it was over.

I wasn’t aware how the scans work but it makes sense in the way you have explained it. I think I’m guilty of putting 2+2 together and getting 5. Our minds are truly our own worst enemies at times. 

I had the ultrasound 2 weeks ago after ent referred me but I’ve not heard anything back. The whole thing from the start has been a nightmare of waiting and being sent for tests that weren’t needed. 

I suppose it’s a case of sitting tight and waiting

Yes i have a similar thing very painful atm i have a cluster of largish lumps in my lower bk counted 4 all swollen up but nothing in ultrasound at all and no explanation as to what they are now iv been given a muscle specialists phone number wont do an mri thats it fuming

Hi I've got a lump in my neck and nothing showed up on ultrasound now I dont know what to think, they just said if it grows to come back. So confused.
