Failed colonoscopy

the prep was fine. On the day opted for gas and air but had the canula put in incase I found it to painful. Ok at the start but not very long into the procedure it was becoming increasingly painful. I was given sedation and pain relief but they didn't seem to do anything . The pressure I felt in my bowl just kept getting more and more painful, I started to cry and in the end they had to stop. Only went 30cms into the bowl!!! Found a large polyp and found I had diverticulitis so have to have another done. Looking at the note they gave me they gave 2mcg of midazolam and fentanyl 100mcg. Not very much in my opinion. Said I was anxious +++ well I was because the pain didn't subside! What a carry on!

  • Had my colonoscopy today at 9.30 after about 7 mins they had to stop the pain was excruciating , although they say I had 50 mg fentanyl and gas and air I felt like I had no sedation at all I was almost climbing off the bed I'm quite good with pain but this was terrible.

I now have to have a ct scan and then another colonoscopy in 2 weeks but I hope they use different sedation.

anyone else have this problem, the nurse said it was probably due to the fact I'd had an hysterectomy

  • Welcome to the forum Willows2411 although I'm sorry to hear about your colonoscopy experience.

I just wanted to reply to you as this thread hasn't been very active lately so there's a chance you may not get a reply from anyone on here, including Kenzington who hasn't been on the forum since making their post back in 2018.

I really hope that won't be the case but if you don't hear back you're welcome to reach out to others on more recent discussions you find about this topic - I can assure you there are quite a few as it is a very common talking point within the community - or you can start your own. You can find out how just here.

We're thinking of you Willows2411 and wishing you all the best with your next colonoscopy.

    Kind regards,

  • On Friday last week I had my 3rd colonoscopy. None of the previous one had been successful because I was in agonising pain. Thankfully' on Friday I was given enhanced sedation. I don't remember any of it and I didn't feel any pain. Unfortunately they could not complete the procedure because of poor bowel prep and adhesions from the previous 27 pelvic operations over many years. I am going to have a CT colonography. It does worry me that this is all taking time to actually find out what's wrong. it's really quite frightening. especially no I have had severe pain since the procedure. I just want to know what is wrong

  • I just had on my report Fixed Sigmoid Diverticulosis, did you find out what Fixed Sigmoid meant ? mine was very very painful also, thx
