HPV turned cancer??

Hello

About 5-6 years ago I was told I could potentially have HPV. After testing for everything else that came back negative, it was pretty much confirmed it was HPV when I started getting warts. I thought nothing of it really until the last 2 months when I stated to get a painful throat and neck. I also started to get ulcers in my mouth so I assumed I also had oral HPV. Symptoms seemed to come and go but recently they’ve been at it worst. Coughing regularly and sometimes difficult swallowing and breathing. The worst is the neck pains. I’m very worried that it’s turned dangerous and has turned cancerous in my throat. Can anyone help?? Thanks.

  • Hi joe125outlook125 and welcome to the forum.

Have you seen a doctor about the symptoms you've been experiencing recently? If not, it may be a good idea to see someone as they will be able to examine you and let you know if it may be cause for concern.

Hopefully some of our members will be along soon to offer their input but I'm going to include some information we have on our website about hpv and cancer for you to have a look at. If you have any questions or would like to discuss your concerns with someone you can do so by giving our cancer nurses a call next week. Their lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040.

I hope the doctor is able to give you some insight in to these symptoms soon Joe.

    All the best,

  • Hi, don’t know if I’m in the right place here but I am a male and was diagnosed with hpv genital warts about 8-9 months ago I’m only 19, around 3 months ago I started feeling that my tonsils was enlarged and throbbing. I went for a blood test for lymphoma or something but got the all clear I’m just constantly stressing that I might have oral hpv even though genital warts are low risk?, can someone have both low risk and hi risk hpv at the same time. I did preform oral sex on the person who I assume I caught this off. Thanks in advance!

I wonder if you health needs would be served better by attending a STI clinic

When you had a confirmed diagnosis of gental warts - did you have a full STi screen

Both HPV and other STIs can been transmitted via oral sex .

GPs are NOT usually able to screen for the variety of STIs, routine blood tend not to show common STis
