Testicular Cancer, Lump that's sometimes felt and others not

Hey there,

Some BG info: Male, Age 23. WARNING: Long Post. Added as much detail as I can. TLRD at the end.

So on Wednesday (12/09/2019). I was for some reason having a rummage around me testicles as I was about to uhh take a leak. To my horror, I found what seemed to be a small, (like almost slightly bigger than the tip of a rice grain), hard lump on my right testicle near the Epididymus (sp?). I found this when examining the right testing with my left hand. (this is relevant, I assure you). I attempted to test with my right hand because why not right? Nothing. Couldn't find anything. Which really, really confused me.

So I took a shower just to see whether or not it was the skin just being bunched (it was rather cold tbh..) in the hopes the hot water (like, really Hot, love me a hot shower hehe) would help get it too loosen up so I can have a good feel of things. I found it difficult to find it. But I knew it was there. I'd felt it earllier outside the shower and had a good full around the area. Still no luck.

So. Out of shower, dried. Etc etc. Went to bed with the promise that I'd call me GP for an appointment. I'm too stubborn to let something like this go.

Wake up in morning, about to have another shower and to my immediate horror, feel the same lump. Same size. Same location. Using the same left hand. Nothing with right tho... Have another shower and again, attempt to find it. No such luck.

So I called GP and they offer me an appointment for the Friday (the next day). Unfortunately (and I wish I didn't), I asked for an appointment for the next week on Wednesday (19/09/2018). Mainly because I wasn't sure whether my employer would allow me the half day/ day off. (I've since found out that for Docs appointments that were made in an emergency or for some urgent reason, I actually only need a a half days notice if I feel its that important - I love my employer, really do).

Since then, I've beside myself with stress. Only going to the Gym has been able to put me mind at rest temporarily. I did call 111 for help (I really needed someone to talk to tbh.. I don't want to tell me family because it'd worry em needlessly and the same for my mates) to see if theres a walk-in centre or some sort of drop in that I can go to. Got a callback from a lovely dude from the NHS and considering I've had 0 other symptoms, he didn't seem all that worried (although he did recommend I ensure I attended the appointment come Wednesday).

So yea.. I've no idea what it is. I just wish it wasn't there so I could get on with my life and my plans!

With regards to this appointment on Wednesday, would it be wrong of me to request an Ultrasound irregardless of whether or not me GP finds something? Again, due to the nature of said lump; it's very umm intermittent

How much would an Ultrasound cost? I've been told theres up to a 3 week wait time if the GP doesn't consider it too serious. If need be, I've the funds to get one done privately. The longer I wait, the more I'll worry and that's not something that I wanna the people around me through. With regards to my health, money isn't my main priority.

If you've read through that wall of text then I commend you and I wish all the best.

Thanks you again

umali

TLDR: Found tiny lump just a bit larger than the head of a rice grain on right testicle with left hand. Can't find it with right hand. Can only find it in a colder setting.

  • Hey hey!

It's all good! Yea, it's pretty normal to have different sized testicles. We're all a little wonky somewhere mate!

No worries! Great to hear all is well and my Xmas and New Years was pretty damn good thank you! How about yourself? It's better to get it checked than not checked

    Cheers

  • Not to bad thank you Christmas was good pain is going so life is becoming good again, I just needed to stop touching them I think that's what was triggering pain, and like my mother says cancer doesn't cause pain and you would be able to tell what a lump will feel like etc

  • hi i need some advice and help,

it seems to be only at night that i can feel 2 pea sized lumps on both testicles during the day there is nothing there but at night there is on both and im confused and scared

  • Hey there,

Two pea-sized lumps on your testicles or within them? Either way, I would highly suggest that you go and get that check with your GP as a high priority. I can assure you, the Doctor will not belittle you and nor will they be seeing/ touching something that they've never had experience with.

    Cheers!

  • hi thanks again yeah its within them like under the skin

  • Hey, so I found a lump about last week, very small, not felt in the mornings or colder temps. However when it's warmer or more relaxed it was very prominent, so I myself (quite embarrassed as I'm only 17) told my mum, who was recently diagnosed with lobular breast cancer (hence why I was so paranoid) about said lump. She told me she'd book an appointment at the gp the next morning but couldn't get through. So me being me told her to leave it and if it got any bigger we'd let the doctor have a look at it. However I decided it would be 100% for the best to get it checked, took about three days to get through but nonetheless, on Monday morning I managed to book an appointment for Friday (today). The doctor was very abrupt about seeing me, as soon as she heard lump she put me in for an appointment. So 9:30 AM get up and go the gp, took all of about 15 minutes, she popped me on the bed and examined my testis (not awkward at all considering it was a woman). The doctor gave me my privacy and didn't look until I was ready, after a good feel of the testicle and surrounding areas she said all was good, however I will still be able to feel the lump (more of a spot). But as what I would assume protocol reading through this thread, she booked me for an ultrasound, I was really worried for the last 2 weeks about my health and was somewhat preparing myself for the worst. I know this post is a lot to read, but this thread really helped to calm me down and to understand my situation better, if you managed to read through this all and are worrying at all about something that doesn't feel right in your testicular area, not getting it checked is for the worst and your gp will make the process of being examined totally easy and completely comfortable for you.

    Thank you, sincerely

    Joseph

  • Hey [@Joseph17]‍ ,

That sounds quite familiar to my situation! Basically I could only feel the lump when it was also warm (because everything down there is usually a lot looser in warmer temps) and also when I'd done a heavy lower-body session at the Gym.

I couldn't find this lump 100% of the time. Just in those situations. Or if I was really fondling it (for the lack of a better word).

Went to GP myself. They examined me. They couldn't find anything (similar to yourself I think?). But they got in me in for an Ultrasound.

They found multiple Epydimal cysts (benign growths - definitely not cancer). Which would make sense as the increased bloody flow would reveal them better to feel and why I couldn't feel the one lump I was feeling all the time.

I'm glad this post helped you mate. I think it's really difficult to almost calm yourself down after you find something like this because really - we're not medical experts (or I'm not most definitely!).

Definitely agree with you that not checking with your GP when you think you've found something like this is a bad idea. Because there's a high chance it isn't, but there's also a chance that it is and you owe it to yourself and the people around you to get help. GPs will go out their way to make sure the process of examination is as procedural as possible. At the end of the day, they've a duty of care to you and most GP I've met are thoroughly decent people.

Again, I am so very glad this post has helped you [@Joseph17]‍ ! I hope that when you get your results, they come back all kushty.

    Cheers

  • hi have you had your ultrasound i called the doctor about a month a go now and she said id get a letter eventually for an ultrasound what you have seems to be similar to me glad to hear its more common than i thought gives me some reassurance

  • Hi [@jclarge]‍ ,

Yeah I had an Ultrasound back in 2018. Nothing was found outside of some benign cysts. Yeah, due to things in the Outside World, things are moving a little slowly but hopefully you'll get the answers you need! :)

    Cheers

  • Hey, so I got a phone call yesterday not a letter, which was weird cause gp said referral would come through post. However it's today. So it's been 19-ish Days since I went gp and my ultrasound is today.
