Testicular Cancer, Lump that's sometimes felt and others not

Hey there,

Some BG info: Male, Age 23. WARNING: Long Post. Added as much detail as I can. TLRD at the end.

So on Wednesday (12/09/2019). I was for some reason having a rummage around me testicles as I was about to uhh take a leak. To my horror, I found what seemed to be a small, (like almost slightly bigger than the tip of a rice grain), hard lump on my right testicle near the Epididymus (sp?). I found this when examining the right testing with my left hand. (this is relevant, I assure you). I attempted to test with my right hand because why not right? Nothing. Couldn't find anything. Which really, really confused me.

So I took a shower just to see whether or not it was the skin just being bunched (it was rather cold tbh..) in the hopes the hot water (like, really Hot, love me a hot shower hehe) would help get it too loosen up so I can have a good feel of things. I found it difficult to find it. But I knew it was there. I'd felt it earllier outside the shower and had a good full around the area. Still no luck.

So. Out of shower, dried. Etc etc. Went to bed with the promise that I'd call me GP for an appointment. I'm too stubborn to let something like this go.

Wake up in morning, about to have another shower and to my immediate horror, feel the same lump. Same size. Same location. Using the same left hand. Nothing with right tho... Have another shower and again, attempt to find it. No such luck.

So I called GP and they offer me an appointment for the Friday (the next day). Unfortunately (and I wish I didn't), I asked for an appointment for the next week on Wednesday (19/09/2018). Mainly because I wasn't sure whether my employer would allow me the half day/ day off. (I've since found out that for Docs appointments that were made in an emergency or for some urgent reason, I actually only need a a half days notice if I feel its that important - I love my employer, really do).

Since then, I've beside myself with stress. Only going to the Gym has been able to put me mind at rest temporarily. I did call 111 for help (I really needed someone to talk to tbh.. I don't want to tell me family because it'd worry em needlessly and the same for my mates) to see if theres a walk-in centre or some sort of drop in that I can go to. Got a callback from a lovely dude from the NHS and considering I've had 0 other symptoms, he didn't seem all that worried (although he did recommend I ensure I attended the appointment come Wednesday).

So yea.. I've no idea what it is. I just wish it wasn't there so I could get on with my life and my plans!

With regards to this appointment on Wednesday, would it be wrong of me to request an Ultrasound irregardless of whether or not me GP finds something? Again, due to the nature of said lump; it's very umm intermittent

How much would an Ultrasound cost? I've been told theres up to a 3 week wait time if the GP doesn't consider it too serious. If need be, I've the funds to get one done privately. The longer I wait, the more I'll worry and that's not something that I wanna the people around me through. With regards to my health, money isn't my main priority.

If you've read through that wall of text then I commend you and I wish all the best.

Thanks you again

TLDR: Found tiny lump just a bit larger than the head of a rice grain on right testicle with left hand. Can't find it with right hand. Can only find it in a colder setting.

  • Just thought I'd post an update. Managed to get booked for an Ultrasound come next Monday at 9:15 (01/10/2018 09:15).

Again. I want to make sure it is an't anything dodgy. I did find out that I had a surgery for an undescended testicle back in 1999 (when I was 4). Had no idea. I was always told it was to remove my appendix. Family were probably too embarassed or what have you. I can't blame them considering the culture they were born in. My fault somewhat for not finding out as I'd gotten older I guess.

Update on the lump (less a lump, think more like a spot around a cm or two from the Epididymus). Cannot find it quite a lot of the time however I have noticed that is is most prevalent after gym. Probably after a period of high exertion. No increase in size however and its always the same place when I am lucky to have found it. Doesn't sound right to me.

    Cheers!

  • Just had an ultrasound with MediScan (who apparently guarantee results within 48 hours)through me doc. Turns out to be two cysts on the Epidydmal (sp?) head. I think one or each testicle (possibly both on one).

Would probably explain what was going on. Gonna call the doc on Wednesday during lunch to confirm everything.

But! I reckon its looking good.

    Cheers

  • Hello,

I know this was some time ago but im currently going through a scare myself. I have been reassured that it is a 2mm Epidydmal cyst by an ultrasound, however, to me if definately feels as if it is on the curve of testicle itsself towards the top (about 1cm from the epidydimus head) and not on the connected tubing. Is this similar to your case or was yours on the epidydimus tube itself? All images online only show it in this way which is why I'm worried something may have been missed.

    Cheers, Liam

  • Hey [@liamliam]‍ !

Yeah so mine was about a cm below the Epididymis as well (so pretty much similar to yours), on the curve of the Testicle. Which is what caused the initial concern (by myself). If you actually look at the anatomy of a Testicle, you'll find that it curves down over the top of said Testicle. So if anything, I don't think (retrospectively - the Me back then was really, really worried) it's anything to be overly concerned about. The Ultrasound is a really good indicator to see whether a growth needs looking into or not according to me GP.

You did good by getting the Ultrasound though. If you are feeling a little uncertain then please go to your GP and ask to run more tests. A blood test for example. My recent test took about a day to get back to me Doctor (but can take back up to 2 days which ain't too bad!).

I can still feel my Cyst sometimes. But only after a really stressful day or after a heavy Lower Body day at the Gym.

    Lemme know how it goes.

    Cheers,

    Umali

  • Thanks for your reply, I really appreciate it! It sounds like yours was pretty similar to mine. I just can't understand why it's called an Epididimal cyst if it's not on the Epididumus. That's really what's keeping me in a panick, even post ultrasound.

My main concern is, now I've had one, they wont allow me another (probably as I don't need one) but this could result in letting somehting get worse. Just for extra clarification, would you mind letting me know if yours was in a similar location to mine. I've put a red dot where mine is located (non graphic dont worry). Or if in a different location, was it similar in it's disance from the epididimus?

    Thanks again for your reply!

  • Hi buddie I've found a small rice lump on my left testicle it's hard and feels like rubber I have a constant dull ache and dragging feeling in my scrotum I went to the gp and she ha referred me to have an ultrasound scan I'm trying not to worry about it but it's hard as it there and I'm sure it's getting bigger I know it's not a cyst due to its location

I got my appointment for my scan 4 week wait.

How are you and have you had your scan and what was your outcome

  • Hey pal,

Also had a 4 week wait so that's not really all that unusual. So had my scan - took all of about 15 minutes tops. The dude that was doing it told me the results at the end. Told me that it is/ was a Cyst. Actually, he said he found "Multiple Benign Cysts".

Then he sent the report to my GP who also reviewed and confirmed "It was Benign Epidydmal Cyst(s)". So it's all good. I still feel it now again when I do a heavy lower-body focused Gym Session (I suspect due to increased blood-flow) a year on but it's not increased in size at all.

I know exactly how you feel bud. I had similar symptoms myself and I coulda sworn at times that it grew bigger. It didn't and the only thing that was happening was that I was checking myself so often that I'd almost irritate it - thus pushing more blood-flow through it. Perhaps that's what is happening? I would 100% recommend not touching it or irritating it anymore than what's needed.

Anxiety over something like this can usually exacberate things and make you feel worse. Try and focus on something else in the room. Say, your clock! Look at the time and count down. Do that for a good minute.

Right now, I'm all good! Not entirely health (got some issues with my Gut which I'm seeing a GI about but I doubt they're anything serious at all) but in terms of me testicles - the boys are doing all good and I've little to no issues with them. It's not nice feeling like that so I completely empathise with you.

If you need someone to chat to, feel free to pop me a PM or just reply back on this thread. Keep us updated if you can mate.

    Cheers!

  • Hey man,

Really, really sorry about missing this. I can't believe I did that! See, the epidymal wraps around the entirety of the testicle and almost branches out like the roots of a tree. Ultrasounds can be quite conclusive with regards to something like this.

I can confirm mine was exactly in the same place as yours (i mean, on my testicle that is hehe). Or atleast one of them. I had multiple apparently but they were so small, they'd only appear through the Ultrasound and I couldn't feel them. All Epidimal Cysts!!

Again, so sorry for completely missing this mate. That's 100% my bad!
    Cheers!

  • Hey,

Don't worry about it mate! Your other replies helped me get past my fear. I've left it behind now and it doesn't bother me at all now. Thanks for your help! Unfortunately, my attention has turned elswear and my health anxieties continue. But I'm seeking help for it and feel good about the direction I'm heading.

Hope you are well and thanks again for your reassurance.

    Liam

  • Hi,

I'm glad you've managed to help yourself get past it! Yeah I feel you on the health anxieties. I've been dealing with some of my own lately. The more I worry about them, the worst things get. Funnily enough not worrying about them makes all me issues go away. Kinda strange how that works eh?

But yeah, good to hear things are all good with yourself.

I'm great thanks for your asking. As always - feel free to post back here if you are in need of help :)

    Cheers!
