HPV, High grade dyskaryosis and pregnant!

Hello,

I am terrified. There is a massive delay in smear results here at the moment - 18+ weeks. During which time baby number 3 hopped onboard. I’m almost 10 weeks. I’m just really unsure as to the implications, how long these bad cells could take to become cancerous? Risk to thebbaby if I did have them removed etc. My health is priority as I have two children already. I has really had no symptoms of anything... Help!

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat forum Effie although I'm sorry for the reason you are posting.

We have some information about hpv as well as pregnancy and abnormal cervical cells on our website which I hope will help put your mind at ease - especially about baby number 3 - but do feel free to give our cancer nurses a call next week if you'd like to discuss this with them in more detail or if you have any other questions playing on your mind as they're very knowledgeable in this area. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Effie.

I have been searching the web for information as I am in the same boat you were a year ago. I was just wondering how everything turned out and if you could give me some advice.

hope everything was ok for you and your family

  • Hello, sorry you are in the same boat - I was incredibly anxious and I'm sure you are.

So, it's a little bit of a blur as it was a rough year in general, but this is essentially what happened.

I had a couple of examinations a few months apart during my pregnancy. Apparently any changes are likely to slow down and or be difficult to tell what's Normal pregnancy weirdness. Then, 3 months (i think!!!) post birth I had a cone biopsy and another smear - it was quite upsetting but not overly painful.  Everything thankfully came back as non cancerous and I'm due to have another smear a year on.

it didn't effect pregnancy or birth at all. I was told

birth could actually resolve the issue.

good luck, it's hugely concerning when you aren't just thinking about yourself. I hope you have as positive time as I did.

    xx
