Suspected ovarian cancer

Hello! First post here... just after a bit of advice or any similar stories, had a bit of a shock today

So about 6 weeks ago I started having sever stomach pain.. I had an ultrasound and transvaginal scan on Tuesday and blood test on Monday. Today I had a call to say I’ve been fast tracked to Gynecology on Wednesday for suspected ovarian cancer and I’m seeing the consultant on the Friday. Completely thrown me and I’ve been a mess all day,  im a single mum with  kids and my mind has just been going nuts today!

Can anyone clarify how ovarian cancer is diagnosed??

  • Hi Cheryl,

Was the pain like severe period pain? And how long did the pain last? If you don’t mind me asking.

ive had dull pain in my pelvis for about 3 months now and had severe sharp pain for about 10-15 minutes about 6 or 7 times in those 3 months. Also been suffering from pain in my back, nausea and recently started to suffer from constipation too. My CA125 blood test was only 38 which I’m being told isn’t worrying but have an ultrasound booked for Sunday.

Did they say what they saw in the ultrasound or what your blood results were? I know the best diagnosis for tumours and cysts are from internal ultrasounds and cannot be confirmed as cancer until a biopsy or removal or cysts are carried out.

  • Hi mikayla thanks for your reply!

So the pain and out of nowhere, was so bad I called the paramedics! Was in my lower left abdomen, only lasted a couple of hours then nothing again for about a week and had been in and off since then but nothing as painful as the first time. Pain was more like a stabbing than period..

So at the scan they saw an abnormal cyst.. I’ve been constipated too but gave up smoking 4 months ago and put it down to that..

mad got the blood results all the doctor said was that there was an elevation? Not sure what that means.. I’ve had 3 blood tests now in last 6 weeks

i thought they said they were going to do another ultrasound on Wednesday.. but I’m not sure what they’ll get from that seeing as they’ve already done one.

  • Maybe an MRI or CT scan to look further into it? I’m not too sure what the next stages would be and I would assume the elevation they referred to was the CA125 blood test it has to be between 0 and 35. Mine was slightly raised at 38.

i have my ultrasound on Sunday so we will see what they see then. Did they tell you how Big the cyst was?

    Mikayla

  • Yes I didn’t know about the ca125 until I read it on here.

I don’t know how big the cyst is, wish i’d Asked! Will find out..

I just feel like I’ve been in the dark about it all.. I didn’t hear the word cancer until I read it on the hospital letter.. massive shock!

I think I’ll make a call to the hospital and try and get some answers

good luck with the ultrasound on Sunday, are you having a transvaginal too? Mine was with a man, who was younger than me and quite good looking I didn’t know where to look haha not awkward at all

  • I’m sure all will become clear soon once yourve seen the specialist.

Oh really.. definitely slightly awkward lol. Yes, I was told I am having abdominal and transvaginal.

keep us updated on what happens Wednesday. I hope it’s not as bad as you fear.

  • Hi

I've just put a post up with similar symptoms. Mine have been weight loss. Pain in left ovary radiating to the right. Constant nagging bottom back pain. On strong pain killers, which only take the edge of but when I dont take them it comes back again.

Just had a transvaginal scan which came back ok. Waiting to see the doctor to see what to do next.

Also i constantly have the urge to go for a wee, but as for a number 2 I ony do it twice a week. My periods are erratic and I can't fall pregnant either.

No water infection and my kidneys are a good size.

any body had these symptoms before.

  • Hi Cheryl

I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer 2 years ago. I had no pain, just persistent indigestion and felt a bit bloated. I had an ultrasound scan which showed I had ascites ( fluid in the abdomen ). I then had a CT scan, and an internal ultrasound. The results of these scans, together with a CA125 of 1020, gave me the diagnosis.

I hope you have a positive outcome, and your symptoms are something different than ovarian cancer.

However, I would like to say, that 2 years on I'm doing ok, feeling good and looking forward to going to Italy this month for my son's wedding!

    Take care.

  • If you don't mind me asking, but did you request the blood test from your doctor and how long from the test to a diagnosis was it?

    Thanks

  • Hi

My  GP arranged for the blood test. I know it's not always the case that a raised ca125 means cancer, but it is an indicator that something is wrong. I was diagnosed within a week.

  • Hi Jan,

I am going for internal camera scan at the ultra sound unit next Wednesday. My symptoms three weeks ago weee similar to period pain pains in ovaries very bloated hard stomach felt like a urinary tract as felt I wanted to go toilet every 15 minutes  so after three weeks of antibiotics the nurse decided to stop antibiotics as nothing had changed  and send me in for scans.

Did you have a feeling of wanting to go toilet? Very worries as my Nan & Auntie all died before there 60s of stomach cancer.

My doctors are not very helpful you cannot see the same doctor each time so my diagnosis seems to vary and this time I had to demand more scans as couldn’t walk out of doctors with no meds and no help as the feeling of wanting I go toilet and hot groin around ovaries feels like infection but if it was the antibiotics would of cleared it up.

    Hopefully test are ok
