Throat cancer? Contant fear worrying every second of the day

8 weeks now, sore throat, on visual the whole of the back of the throat when I look in my mouth is red and sore I can feel my throat is sore and sometimes get feelings food stuck in throat after eating or feeling something is there after swallowing. I have realised I am producing more saliva, I am worried because of the duration and the fact I have had one course of antibiotics that didn't work doctor said to me he didn't think it was that anyway been on anti acid tablets for silent reflux for a week still nothing and I have no symptoms of reflux and never had it seems pointless, now at a stage where doctor has wrote to Ent for a referral for camera down the throat I can't believe to tell u how scared I am of them putting it down there and telling me that I have cancer and I may not have long to live this is seriously freaking me out I'm only 32 with three beautiful boys. Any help would really be nice.

  • Sorry you’re finding yourself in this horrible situation I understand how worrying it is.

Not to dismiss your fears in any way but My husband had a very similar experience at Christmas, he had a sore throat and he said felt like a lump in his neck, hurt to swallow, like you it went on for weeks and he was also treated for silent reflux but it did t help. He paid to see ENT rather than wait, I think it was around February or March he went and within minutes he was told all was fine. It cleared up not long afterwards I put it down to him stressing about it as he does suffer with health anxiety. Others may have different experiences but I wanted to share ours in the hope of giving some reassurance. In my experience (recently diagnosed with stomach cancer) waiting is the hardest part, if you can afford to go private  to see an ENT doctor then I’d recommend it, I think it was approx £200. It’s a shame to have to result to that but some referrals just take too long.

I know you’re scared of bad news but I’d rather have the plaster ripped off and deal with it than wait, I do know how you feel, I’m only 46 with 2 young kids.

I hope you get answers very soon xxx

  • Hiya...I’m so sorry your feeling so scared I can only imagine the pain your feeling too.

My husband was diagnosed with throat  cancer in January this year.  The NHS have been 100% excellent with dealing with everything. He found a small lump on the left side of he’s neck Xmas eve and by New Year’s Eve it was a size of a golf ball and within 4 weeks (25/1/18) he was diagnosed! He had appointments every week sometimes twice but he was dealt with quicker than ...He didn’t have any symptoms that your having..I know everyone is different but it was only the quick growing lump that made him go to the Drs...The ENT were really good..They only used a very thin camera inserted through the nose to see what was going on... He has had similar what your experiencing now (but from he’s  treatment) and through test they said it was thrush at the back of his throat...I thought I would share my story with you as it could be so many different things and  I know our minds can play horrible games with us! Honestly it’s normal not to be worried but try to think positive thoughts..I’m here if you would like to chat about anything..
