More than 1 swollen lymph node on right side of neck??

Hello,

for the past 4+ weeks I’ve had a swollen lymph node on the right side of my neck which measures around 1.5-2cm and recently a couple more pea sized ones have appeared. I have no other symptoms of being ill or it being anything more serious however around 3 weeks ago I did have the flu I think. I’ve been to the doctors and have been referred to the hospital for an emergency ultrasound scan because she didn’t like the size of them and to rule out cancer. I’m just really worried and wondered if anyone else had experienced this and could put my mind at ease??

  • Thanks I will also let you know when mine comes through, getting worried a 3cm lymph node seems quite large

  • Hi Steve,

To be honest mine is probably 3cm too, I'm a nurse and I have done a lot of research which doesnt really help the worry. I have no pain in mine either but I'm aware it's there. I'm hoping it was caused by a cold or flu and that it just didn't return to normal size. I don't feel I'll really and managing to hold down a full time job and house move at the same time, so fingers crossed for both of us.

    kind regards,

    elaine

  • Fingers crossed for us both to, I'm hoping both of us may hear something next week.

  • I have finally got my appointment for tomorrow morning, im thankful it's arrived but quite apprehensive as the lump is still there and hasn't shrunk, fingers crossed.

  • Hi Vatch,

I was suffering from tonsillitis (first time in my early 40s) and got the right side of my nose and ear pain. got swollen lymph node on right side as well like 2cm x 3cm. I was referred to 2 weeks fast track by my GP to the MK hospital. ENT consultant got biopsy from back my nose telling there is an extra growth and didn't worry about the lymph node or sore throat. Biopsy and blood results came back normal but he was very sure I have a cancer and referred me to McMillan nurse and a cancer center.

At the meantime, the biopsy was sent to a research center and they have confirmed the presence of EBV virus and referred me to a Hematologist. He straight away concluded I have lymphoma and started talking about my treatment without a PET/CT or any other scan. I am really worried.  Does the consultant assure you that strongly without any report that a patient has cancer? since then I am feeling my much better. i am fit and cal eat well. still waiting for my PET scan result and blood test result.

  • Hi Wat,

Any update on how it went?

    Hope all is good.

  • Hi Matt,

Since January it was a rollercoaster. After PET/CT scan it was confirmed I have stage 4B non-Hodgkin lymphoma (B cell-driven by EBV) . They started Chemo R-CHOP straight away. the plan was 6 cycles after the first Chemo all my swelling went away but after the second and third new lymph nodes appeared so my consultant stopped the chemo and did another scan and found out I am not fully responding to R-CHOP. They change it to R-GDP a stronger regime and it worked but my consultant thought it was temporary and referred me to Stem Cell/Bone Marrow (Autologous) transfer in last June. I am on my day 41 of post-transplant and recovering at home.  have to build up my strength slowly. and going for occasional blood tests.

    Thank you
