Pancreatic Cancer Worries

Hi my name is Scott and I'm a 31 year old who has been having symptoms for over 4 months now.

It started with a discomfort dull ache in the lower abdomen with sever nausea (no vomiting) and bloated feeling, after a month and various IBS meds I had an ultrasound which I paid for which showed nothing but couldn't see the pancreas clearly due to gas. I then paid private for a CT scan with contrast which came back normal and also an endoscopy which showed a little acid in throat but nothing else. My eyes have a yellowish tinge at corners and below when I pull eyelids down while my urine is always pretty yellow. I had my liver function bloods done and were normal and also paid for 2 bilirubin blood tests which showed normal levels.

I've got constant indigestion or what I think is indigestion because I have never experienced this before, it feels like food is stuck in my back and chest and won't shift. I've been on omperazol for a month and nothing has changed. My stools while not diahorea always float.

I've ran out of money and my doctor will not send me for any tests despite my health nosdiving for the past 4 months. I know having the tests above should be reassuring but I have a horrible feeling that something is wrong especially because the symptoms I keep getting all point to those disease. I am in a panic because I want to catch whatever it is early but can't get anywhere it seems.

I didn't have indigestion at the start bland because of this I was a bit relived because I knew it was a sign of PC then 2 months later it is here and won't go. I'm terrified

  • Hi Scott.

I see its been a while since your last post. I was wondering how you are and if you have any news.

Your journey mirrors mine. I too have had all the tests which came back normal.

My GP has said he can do no more and is sending me down the mental health route.

  • Did you ever find out what was going on? I have been exactly the same
  • Hi Adski,

Ive not found out what the issue is unfortunately, Ive had a few more tests like a stool tests to show pancreas enzyme levels which were normal and I’ve had a colonoscopy too which didn’t find anything.

The only thing that’s come back suspect is one liver test which is now normal, a iron level which was high and the fat in my stool which is 2 times higher than normal.

I now suffer from constant yellow fatty stool and dark urine but the pains in my stomach have been more settled.

My doctor gave up and I can see why when everything is showing normal test wise but I’m just taking it day by day. I know there is something up given the change in my bowels and urine but if it were PC I think I’d be very very ill by now surely?

  • I have had all the same tests as you and all come back ok my doctor is refusing anymore but my symptoms continue to get worse and worse surely this is red flag

  • I’m in the midst of a similar nightmare. Pain in my upper left quadrant; stabbing/dull ache which is worse when I lye on my front. Pale/fatty stools, dark urine and feeling in poor health generally. I’ve had a colonoscopy, CT scan and more recently an MRI. I couldn’t tell you how many blood tests as I’ve lost count! I’ve had nothing yet - all has been clear but I’m still waiting for my MRI results.

i can sympathise with you massively - I feel most people are thinking I’m a barm cake but the pain is persistent. The symptoms seem to change (come and go) for example, some days I get really bad wind. After spending god knows how much money with private health firms I’m now with a Gastro consultant in the NHS - he’s been thorough so far which is refreshing. GP just thought I was an anxious head case! I too have had dental issues which leads me to be absolutely and utterly convinced it’s PC!

Im only 31 so I keep reminding myself about the unlikelihood of my wandering thoughts - but it’s a terrifying thought all the same.

  • Hi, just read your post and wondered if you found out what was causing me your problems.  I have a similar problem with my GP who keeps saying you have had all the tests and we can find nothing wrong.

  • Hi, just read your last post.  Did you find out what was causing the dark urine and change in stools?

  • No im still in the same boat although I have also developed severe all over itching which started in November and is still here.

My stools are still bulky and yellow while my urine is always dark yellow and burnt orange in the morning. Feel helpless and can't get anyone to take me seriously. I've no idea what's wrong, my pancreas or my liver but somethings not right and my life is a living nightmare with the worry

  • Hi Scottio..Hope you are well... I, as others are also facing similar issues.. for the past 2 months I've had weird pain feeling under both both ribs on and off... lots of gas, neck pain and some itching. Alot of changes in stools, but I'm on sertriline and lansaprazole.. I also suffer from high anxiety and worrying constantly about my pains. Are you still getting symptoms?

    Kind regards

  • Hi Scottio, I had Acute Necrotizing Pancreatitis, the doctors did not expect me to survive. I was 8 long months in hospital.  I had been having similar symptoms to you, I had even been in hospital with inflamed liver years before. I felt something was wrong and different about my metabolism. But all tests were inconclusive and I sat under the umbrella term that is IBS. My pancreatitis was put down to a gall stone, though only sludge was found. I wonder if your body is struggling to process fat, like I believe mine was. Gall stones form from cholesterol and/or calcium. I do not eat more than 20 grammes of fat a day now, alongside Creon, I am much better. 20 grammes of fat a day is very hard but essential to prevent any further flare ups. If  I have a blood test the following day after a flare up, the amylase levels have already dropped and do not show as elevated. There is a Facebook group called Pancreatitis Survivors who would be able to supply you with their symptoms for comparisons. I truly hope you find what is wrong, do not allow the doctors to rest until you do. Don't be like me, I am lucky to be alive, many don't survive an Acute Pancreatitis attack, I was given only a 10 per cent chance. Greatly reduce your fat intake and see if it helps. Good luck. X
