Do I have lymphoma? I'm so scared

Hi everyone,

I have just gone been to the doctors for a full blood test , I have no 'lumps' but I have lost 1stone this month without trying , decrease appetite, general feeling unwell most of the time and I have started getting pain in my neck and ears after consuming even a tiny bit of alcohol, I am 31 non smoke mummy to three amazing children , my youngest is only 6 months , I'm so scared , please advise me , I can't talk to my husband as he is really stressed with work, Does this sound typical of lymphoma? What are the chances of a diagnoses from blood test results?

Any support or advice is really greatfully received , I'm desperate,

Thank you

  • He did actually point out more lumps that I wasn't aware of and a swelling running down the front of my neck x

  • so had my ultrasound a week ago and on the right side I have lots of lymph nodes and that he wasn't happy with so he took 2 fine needle biopsys and I'm now waiting on the results...

It's so strange that no lymph nodes in the other side are up on the right .. The swelling getting even bigger and now I have just decided to prepare for the worst but hope for the best

I'm terrified but don't want to talk to my family to much as I really don't want to worry them

  • Hi,

The waiting is the worst and hopefully you wont have to wait long.  My lymph node is still noticable but moves and my dentist said she could feel that i had more than one up but i could only feel one.  Can you feel yours?

  • I'm gonna try and chase things today cause I just hate the waiting xxx yeah

  • Hi, I agree, the waiting is the worst bit, unfortunately mine took just over 3 weeks to be done. It was positive last year. After finishing chemo I noticed a small lump again, another biopsy was done, after 3 weeks I called my doctor and she said it was suspicious and ordered further testing, yet another 2 weeks, I had an appointment with her a few weeks later when she told me it was the same lymphoma again. This time it’s too soon for more treatment and also I feel well so it’s watch and wait which I’m happy with, hopefully I can stay on this for a while.  It’s a long process getting diagnosed but necessary in order that they get it correct before deciding on treatment if any. After the biopsy I had to have ct scan, then yet another biopsy as they found one under my arm, the ct scan showed I had enlarged lymph nodes at my lungs and sides of my kidneys. Then I had to wait again for a bone marrow biopsy. I’m afraid it’s quite a long process, I originally went to my doctor in May and started treatment in August . I guess some areas are quicker and I also had to change hospitals which held things up a little. My fingers are crossed for you, hoping you get a result quicker than me.

  • So finally got my results of a fine needle aspiration and they have come back fine but doctor was asking about the lumps and since they have got worst he want to see me back in clinic to discuss possibly removing one lymph node and diopsying that x

I am happy it come back clear but just nervous that he still think it could be cancer

Is it possible for the fine needle one to come back clear and it be a false result ?

  • Sorry to hijack your post. Glad your results came back clear to date. The waiting is awful. I’m sorry I don’t know if you can get false positive result but maybe someone else can help.

I have a question of my own if anyone can help! I found a lump on my neck on the lymph node 2months ago. It’s moveable, painless and hard/ firm. I got it checked & bloods came back clear ( except for elevated heamoglobin) . GP wanted to leave it but my cousin had lymphoma so I insisted on an ultrasound which I won’t have for 4 weeks. Am I over reacting?? If the bloods are clear, does that mean that there’ll be no cancer?? I definitely have really bad itching all over last few weeks. I’m trying not to be paranoid but it’s there. And now another smaller lump on the other side. I just wish I knew gray was causing them. Thanks in advance.

  • Hi, glad it came back clear, when my biopsy came back second time around, it was suspicious so the doctor ordered more testing and unfortunately it was the same lymphoma that I had before. I’m not medically trained but I think they are just being careful to make sure there is nothing untoward going on. Maybe they didn’t take enough of the first biopsy. The one they did under my arm, the doctor kept going back in, she took absolutely loads, I was black and blue but she wanted to make sure they had enough to check it out. If they remove the lymph node and find nothing, you should be in the clear. Fingers crossed for you.

  • Hi, I think you are quite right in insisting to have the ultrasound, they will check it out more thoroughly that way. They may not do a biopsy if they don’t think anything is wrong but it should put your mind at ease and that’s the main thing. My bloods were all ok before I was diagnosed with lymphoma so it’s Best to be cautious. My lump didn’t move and was painless, I had terrible fatigue, lost weight and had itching on my scalp which was embarrassing, but I didn’t know at the time anything was wrong. I also had night sweats and these are all “B” symptoms of lymphoma, my own GP didn’t recognise these symptoms when I went to her, quite a few times as well. It was only when the lump in my neck got bigger that she sent me to see an ENT specialist.  I hope your test gets done quickly and it’s a good result.

  • Hi thank you so much for responding. I’m sorry to hear about your diagnosis & I hope you are doing well in your treatment.

I don’t have any sweats or loss of appetite or fatigue ( other than the norm!) but the itch is so bad & I’ve been thinking is it the summer weather or maybe it’s some  allergies, but now I’m wondering. My scalp is so lumpy at  the base and intensely itchy. I’ve bought special treatments but nothing has helped. Maybe it’s coincidence though. Really going to try and be positive. Hopefully I won’t be waiting too long for a result or the lumps on neck will go down . Thank you
