Found new mole and checking lymph nodes help please

Long story short, I had a mole checked with the gp and they referred me with the 2 week scheme. They couldn’t get me in until 3 weeks later, so in a panic I booked a private consultation and the dermatologist agreed possible melanoma and booked me in for removal on nhs. My appointment for this is on Tuesday so not long to wait but my husband has just found another on my back that is half brown half pink and getting itchy. Will they check other stuff over at my appointment on Tuesday?

also will they check my lymph nodes i.e. feel them? If not how do I check this at home? Thank you!

  • Hi

From my experience at my first appointment with the dermatologist he looked at mole that was causing problems and felt my lymph nodes (he pressed about in my arm pit as closes lymph nodes to my mole).

Second appointment was my biopsy they concertrate on removing it.

On third appointment I got results. He checked all lyph node sites and checked over all my moles.

This is what I found but might be different for person to person. Try not to worry and keep yourself busy.

  • Hi.

I went through this last year. Referred by gp like you and had the mole removed by dermatology dept. You can ask them to look at any suspicious moles you have. They remove them there and then...15 mins to numb, remove and suture.

Then it’s a case of waiting for the results...mine took about a week. It’s generally longer, but mine was a suspect melanoma so they rushed it through. Hopefully yours will be less dangerous...bear in mind there are lots of types, not all invasive and dangerous.

If , for example, it’s BCC, then that will be the end of it. If it’s melanoma, then it’s a wide local excision and sentinel lymph node biopsy if required...depending on the stage diagnosis from the initial excision.

I was lucky...I caught it early enough...st 2b, and the WLE and lymph node check was enough.  3 monthly appointments now.

    Good luck with yours
