Hi I've just had a colonoscopy too and I'm in pain but I'm now worried after reading on here everyone has said the doctor told them no cancer was found , the doctor never said that to me I'm wondering if I should be concerned they said everything looked normal but took biopsies due to my symptoms and cancer in the family . Hope your feeling better 

Erica37 I don't think everyone said that. If polyps are removed you have to wait for results before you can rule out cancer. 

Hi [@erica37]‍  I have had 2 colonoscopy done over the years and I think when the doctors says everything looked Normal then that hopefully  means NORMAL ..if he seen cancer then it would be abnormal ,biopsies are taking from almost every one that I have spoken to that has had this procedure,.they took 8 biopsies from my bowles and said that my test was normal  as well ,but I started to bleed now a week later .the Doctor who did  the procedure wrote on my doctor letter that he recommended I go on iron ASAP that is what I am confused about as they Didn't do any blood test on the day , 6-8 weeks for results let just hope that's normal means normal cause it's a long wait

@elc29. I feel your pain I had the procedure done last week and the sedation was absolutely useless the pain was awful I was crawling up the bed .I also had the procedure done in 2013 and it was no wer near as painful as this time .they must have gave me different medication  back then .so glad u got good news and no big C found .

:happy: hi I've had a colonoscopy. I was given

 Entonox (gas and air) during the procedure which I held myself and just did the suck in and blow out as you choose yourself when you want it,  really don't remember what I'd call real pain just uncomfortable at worst or when a bend was coming I'd suck in incase pain was supposed to be coming. I couldn't choose the conscious sedation option as I would have had no one with me for 24hrs afterwards which is required for the conscious sedation option and had to drive myself home a fair journey away also. Q. My question is I just wondered if the above people or anyone .. did you have Entonox (gas and air) with the conscious sedation? As that I assume was why I didn't feel pain. Or did you have a painkiller thru an attached needle on the back of your hand? I wonder if so which is the stronger painkiller? I also had an endoscopy in the same visit which I didn't like (not due to any pain but just my body natural instincts of wanting to eject the foreign pipe/camera object asap I was glad it was a quicker procedure than the colonoscopy though. I would definitely opt for conscious sedation if I ever Had to have the endoscopy again one day.but  I wondered if anyone could say if they did have conscious sedation during their endoscopy was it ok eg did your body try to be sick/reach? And was your breathing (& nerves) still ok during the procedure with conscious sedation? I'd rather they just pierced a hole/key hole surgery to look in my tummy any day! Not go down my throat thanks. (I've had key hole surgery for womb (and awake by my own choice!)two cuts required-  with morphine so that was a doddle comparatively but would choose to be asleep if ever a next time as interesting as it was watching it on their tv screen I wasn't so keen on the gas to blow you up but you could speak to them to stop which you can't when asleep! I reckon they could probably judge for themselves ok though while I'd be happily sleeping! :) grateful that had nothing serious by the way.. still waiting for results for the helicobacter pylori bacteria often ish? found in tummies. I have really bad ibs especially recently but more gas And pain(cramps) a few weeks after the procedure and still seem a bit sore from the biopsies taken, feel tired out with loo trips and will be glad when things improve plz God. Hoping it is a  bug I have that can be zapped by antibiotics as I can't  work or socialise at anyone's  house with this strange condition. (More restrictive than pandemic restrictions and safety choices in that sense)! Doc has suggested the low fodmap diet. (A revelation bit of info new to me!)  I found the 'brat' diet on google which def. gives some relief short term from stress causing foods. Waiting for results and hoping. Similar to you, I had the colonoscopy done last Tuesday without sedation because I had no one to drive to me home.  I had one done previously with sedation about 5 years ago (I was only 38 then, but had discomfort enough to check at that early age) and there were no problems.  This time, it took about 20 minutes and 3 samples were taken.  It was a bit weird, as you said, hearing air being pumped in and occasionally the discomfort going around the corners, but in all it took about 25 minutes.  Naturally, I was worried when I heard 'samples', and will find out on Thursday what's happening there.  But also like you, I still have a little discomfort in my insides, more than four days after.  I've had no bloody stools and I'm back to normal toilet visits, which is great.  But that discomfort I have now, naturally, makes me worry, and my imagination has thought maybe something has awoken and it'll only get worse.  It's more noticable when I'm lying down, but not when I'm up and about, so was up at 5am this morning for a walk as it woke me up.  

You are way braver than me, I could never do an endoscopy without sedation, for the reasons you gave.  I'm sure my gag reaction would be terrible.  I had one done in February this year and there were no problems, which I was happy about.  I had another done (with sedation) a few years ago and they found helicobacter for which I got a couple of weeks medicine, which cleared that up (can't remember the name of the medicine I got for that).

Now, it's just the waiting for results and the slight twinges I feel in my gut that make me want to speed up time.  But after reading others in this thread having 6+ samples, having 3 doesn't feel so worrying.  Stay positive!

I've just been for yet another colonoscopy today, I've had several colonoscopies and sigmoidoscopies and an endoscopy since being diagnosed with IBD in 2013. 
Bleeding is normal after polyps and/or biopsies are taken, they say anything more than a small cupful is abnormal. 
Unfortunately the bloating and cramping is part and parcel of the air being blown in, so they are able to get around the bowels and examine it thoroughly. 
Personally I don't usually have sedation or gas and air, and the only time I've had pain (mild-moderate) is when I've had bad inflammation, otherwise it's been more of an uncomfortable sensation. Pain relief wise through the cannula they normally give fentanyl. 

My colonoscopy had to be abandoned because I was in so much pain, even with sedation and gas and air.  Turns out I have a torturous bowel.  Had a colongraphy yesterday and pumping gas in to inflate the bowel was also very painful.  I am hoping they don't find anything sinister - otherwise I have to have another colonoscopy 

I had a colonoscopy on Thursday but they had to stop as I could not tolerate it. I now have to have a scan
