Anyone’s low grade smear test turned out high at colposcopy?

Hi

smear result low grade dyskaryosis and positive HPV.

me again. Still worrying. Especially now I have a six week wait for the colposcopy!!! Got the appointment today. That’s over two months from original smear.

I just have a bad feeling that it’s worse than the smear says.

Have been having heavier more frequent periods since having the copper coil last year. Just put it down to a side effect of that.

I booked the smear without getting a reminder as I had a nagging feeling something is wrong.

So that’s the question. Has anyone had a low grade dyskaryosis smear result that turned out worse at colposcopy?

Thank you. Katie.

  • Hi received a letter last week that I have hpv low grade I've been worried sick can't sleep it's constantly on my mind. I read your post so pleased to hear that yours cleared. I was hoping you would share with me what vitamins you took brand and dose. Look forward to hearing from you

  • Hi Sarah,

i hope you are well. So sorry to hear that you've been informed that you have HPV, it's probably the worst news I had received and was in total shock when I read the letter.

i took the well women vitamins in the purple box (hope this helps)

i know it's hard and nothing anyone says to you will make it go away, but just know there are so many people out there that have had/or have HPV and have gone through what you're going through now.

if you have any questions please do reach out to me as I know speaking to someone who has been through the same thing sometimes helps and there's probably thousands of questions going through your head!

    take care

    xx

  • Hi thank you for getting back to me so quickly, the worry has had me checking my emails since I contacted you only yesterday,  lost count how many times Ive checked. Been feeling extremely down since I got the letter, constant worry day and night to the point it's started affecting my concentration. I was so glad to come across posts like yours and others while I searched the internet looking for answers and questions similar to mine. Thank you, will definitely take those vitamins I hope it can help.

  • Hi

I was diagnosed with hpv and low grade cell changes last year and was referred for a colposcopy (awful experience) - i since abstained from any intimate contact, stopped smoking, cleaned up my diet - I've had another smear with the same results so looking like I'll not get rid of it now .... another smear and colposcopy horrific experience to endure ... which looks like will now to be an annual event ... and a lonely life

  • Hi tm29

I’m sorry to see this has affected your life to such an extent. Almost everyone who has ever been sexually active will have come in contact with the HPV virus, and most will never even know they have it.

However, having the virus does not mean you can never have a relationship again, or never be intimate again. I appreciate that is your choice, but just saying that it’s not a necessity. x

  • I have just received a letter confirming I have HPV and Low-grade dyskaryosis. I am going for a colposcopy. I was just wondering how the procedure was etc...

I am also worried sick, I have lower abdominal pain and I think a UTI, not diagnosed. I had excruciating pain a few weeks ago after sex, but I just had put that down to having the coil fitted a couple of months back.

But you google these things and it's terrifying, I know you shouldn't google but it's natural!!!

Any words of wisdom or advice would be much appreciated

    Charlotte

  • I am not selfish enough to want to spread a virus that causes cancer but appreciate your input

  • Hi Charlotte

Well, my advice would be to stay off google! It’s not something I ever did, and I’m so glad I didn’t because I think it would have both scared the life out of me and given me lots of false information. I preferred to be guided by my medical team which has served me much better.

The colposcopy is basically just a closer examination of the cervix and a solution is applied to identify any areas of abnormal cells. Low grade dyskariosis may not require treatment so your outcome will depend on what is found when this is done. Your mind can run away with itself when you get an abnormal smear result, but it really is extremely common, and the whole point of the screening process is to deal with this before it ever turns into cancer. The colposcopy is very straightforward, so try not to worry too much about it.

  • Hi!
