Anxious about random referral

Hi everyone,

I'm not overly sure if I need to be on this site or not as I've not had any indication that the dreaded "C" word has been used with me.

I'm 20 years old, and 2 weeks ago I had an appointment with an eye specialist as the optic nerve behind my right eye appeared to be swollen. As a result of this they suggested I go for an MRI, and that no matter the results of these tests, I was going to be referred to a neurologist.

Obviously I am panicking like crazy as I've never had any serious health problems and to be perfectly honest I'm being kept in the dark for a lot of this.

Sorry if it seems like this isn't the site for this rambling but I needed some reassurance from somewhere! :(

  • Hi jnewby97 and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to read that your optic nerve behind your right eye appears to be swollen and you've been referred on for further tests. Although this can be scary it is also a good thing as it shows they are doing all they can to find out what the cause may be so you know what you're dealing with.

Many of our members have been through the dreaded limbo of waiting and hopefully some of them will pop by when they can to offer their support and advice.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi there,

I hope everything went well for you and you are well.

Not sure if you'll get this as you posted a while ago but I'm in the same boat, following an eye test today.

What did they do at your referral?

    Any info gratefully received x
