Lump in groin

hi I hope you don’t mind me posting, I thought it makes sense to get peoples opinions who are experienced.

I have found a pea sized lump in my groin, between my legs / upper thigh.

Im sure I found it months ago and thought nothing of it - thought it would be an ingrown hair and it never crossed my mind again.

I would say it’s pretty painless, maybe a little tender now I keep feeling for it but not painful where it’s made me notice anything.

Could it be a swollen lymph node? The reason why I don’t think it’s an ingrown hair is that it feels a little deeper and when I grab behind it I can feel like it’s kind of connected to something - something that feels like a tube / vein. Do you know why this might be?

one thing that concerns me that google has come up with as concerning is I have excruciating pain in my neck below my ear every time I drink. It’s been like this for about 4 years. Pains so intense I struggle to open my mouth. I just thought it must have been an allergy but looking online that’s a rare symptom of lymphoma.

More recently ive been waking up in the night absolutely drenched through, not every night but it’s happening more often.

I’m only 28 and I’ve recently had a baby (20 weeks old) and I’ve lost so much weight  all my baby weight was lost in 6 weeks and I’m even a stone lighter than I was pre pregnancy

I’ve made a doctors appointment for a few days time but I feel like they’re going to fob me off because I’ve been known to have a bit of health anxiety.

I could just do with a bit of ammo for them likely saying ‘it’s a fatty lump / swollen node ‘ etc etc. What should I say and what should I push for?

Thanks

  • Youve not got long to wait just try keep yourself busy. It is the waiting probably would have been done by now under normal circumstances. Have you any other symptoms has the lump grown best wishes

  • It has got slightly bigger over the last few months. Just pain in the area which I've been told is a good sign. Although the Dr who did the ultrasound told me that the pain I felt wasn't my lymph nodes. She was awful, how can you tell someone they are wrong about what they feel ‍♀️. I'm not looking forward to the op but I'm in great hands and I've had experience with my surgeon already.

  • Hope all goes ok the fact your not experiencing any other symptoms is probably a good thing take care

  • Hi hope all ok have you heard anything??

  • Hey, i've just discovered a pea sized lump, same as you, feels like it's attached to the tendon or something. Can be painful if i push on it and make me leg feel achy. Have you heard any more at all? ive got a phone call with the doctors tomorrow so we shall see!

  • Hi everyone,

I've had an on-and-off swollen lymph node in the left side of my groin since secondary school (I'm now mid 20s), which I always put down to hormones.

It would flare up around periods and then go shortly afterwards. The lump would grow large but then go very tiny, and then non-existent. Historically, I don't ever recall it being painful.

In the last few months, the node has grown to a pea-sized lump and won't go down as it normally would. It's sore, sometimes very painful, to the touch. Wearing tight clothing is uncomfortable.

I'm becoming concerned as the normal behaviour of the node has changed. Should I get this checked out?

Thank you, and I hope everyone is well.

  • Hi Chloe

Did you get your lump checked out? I've had similar since July with a swelling in the top of my leg and I had an ultrasound which the radiologist said I had a angiolipoma but i now need an mri. (He said because it's painful)  I can't wear tight clothes and I have like a pulling pain down the back of my leg. Some days it's extremely painful. I'm really worried :-(

I hope you've had some positive news.

  • Hi Floss

Did you have MRI? I hope your getting good support.

I have just had a biopsy for lumps on my thigh and they are Angiolipoma's. My leg is often extremely painful and my GP's only advice is more and more medication, I am waiting to see a dermatologist who will hopefully have some advice.

I have googled it as I had never heard of this before but the information is a bit overwhelming .

  • Hi Jacana

I had the MRI and it just showed fatty tissue. All the Drs are baffled by it but I've just had 3rd physio session and it seems to be helping. Also putting ibuprofen gel on is helping too. I'm going for more tests and scans next week and now under an orthopaedic Dr who is checking if it's a back issue but nothing explains the swelling.

Has your GP mentioned removing the angiolipomas? I'd never heard of them neither. I hope they can help you, I've had to try different things myself and pay for private physio as all my GP wanted to do also was put me on medication (antidepressants) :-(

  • Hi floss

The biopsy removed two,  they can be removed but I have a lots of these so my consultant is going to look for further options at this stage.

Will try the ibuprofen gel, had not thought of using this and I often put a hot water bottle on my thigh for relief.

Good luck with the scans and tests next week hope you get an answer soon.
