Breast Cancer , very scared waiting for referral

Hi Everyone,

I am very new to this and also very scared. I have noticed on the lower side of my left breast there are 2 patches where it looks like my breast is being pulled inwards. If i stand with my arm above my head it is very noticable and it never used to look like this. My nipple on this side also leaks at times and quiet often feels sticky. I got my husband to have a look to check i wasnt imagining it and he spotted it straight away.

I went to the doctors yesterday and she also spotted it straight away. She has refrered me to the breast clinic on the 2 week wait system and all she could say was try not to worry but she doesnt have xray vision which i understand.

I am so scared has anyone else had this kind of systems and it urned ot to all be fine.

  • Hi there,

I'm in the same position. I went to the GP today as I found a lump a couple of days ago. I'm now waiting for an appointment at the hospital in the next two weeks.

My imagination is running away with me.

    Hi Moominmamma,

I am so sorry to hear that you find yourself in the same position with all the worry that this entails. It is always an anxious time until you know exactly what you are dealing with and this is also when our imaginations play havoc on us all.

Try to keep yourself as busy as possible to take your mind off what is happening and try to avoid looking things up on the internet. You will only manage to terrify yourself by looking at the worst case scenario and convincing yourself that this pertains to you, but this is most unlikely to be the case.

Do please let us kow how you get on at your consultation. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Sorry have not replied earlier but it has been a hectic couple of weeks. Got diagnosed with a 1cm DCIS on the 10th May. Lumpectomy and 3 lymph nodes removed on the 31st May. Must say the operation was not as bad as I thought it would be, although still in some discomfort. Saw Consultant on the 15th June who told me that all was clear. Now waiting for an oncology appointment to find out what further treatment I will need. Thank you, ladies, for all the support.

    Hi Denimjw,

It is good to hear from you again.

I am glad to hear that your surgery is behind you now and that you are just waiting to decide upon what treatment is needed. I agree with you. I have had two bouts of cancer and had a lumpectomy followed by a double mastectomy a year later. Much to my surprize, neither of these operations were anywhere near as bad as I expected.

You say that you had 3 lymph nodes removed. Were these infected?

Have you got any idea of when you are likely to see your oncologist? I hope that all goes well when you do see him/her.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you for replying, sorry I have not replied earlier but I have been experiencing problems logging in. Saw Oncologist yesterday he said that my body was free from cancer, lymph nodes were clear. I need to take Tamoxifen for 5/10 years and have 3 weeks of radiotherapy. Before I start any of this treatment he wants me to have a CT scan. I asked why and he said its normal procedure before starting radiotherapy. Feeling a bit worried about side effects from Tamoxifen but count myself lucky as things could have been a lot worse. So more waiting for appointments.

    Take care

    Hi Denise,

I hope that you are feeling a little better having had this good news. Did your oncologist say what stage your cancer is? The CT scan is fairly routine prior to radiotherapy. I took Tamoxifen for a year after my first cancer. when I had a lumpectomy. When I got my second cancer the following year, I changed to Letrozole, following a double mastectomy.

Both of these meds had their side-effects, but they are liveable with. I finished taking Letrozole last July after taking it for 6 years. Fortunately, my cancer is not a very aggressive type and I was able to stop then, although I understand that many people are now being advised to continue treatment for 10 years instead of 5.

Have you got a date for your radiotherapy to start then or do you have to wait to get your CT scan before you get a slot? I hope that all goes well for you. Do please keep us in the loop as you travel your cancer journey.

    Kind regards

  • Just got back from having CT Scan, Radiotherapy starts 31st July and final session on 21st August. I have not been told what stage my cancer is, all I know is it was non-invasive. Can anyone recommend a cream they used to help with the radiotherapy soreness?

    Many thanks

  • I used bio oil morning and evening and aveeno during the day. Start moisturising now and

get your akin into really good condition before you start.

  • Hi All

Its been a while but i just wanted to ask a few questions. After a lot of tests and back and forth to the consultant they have not managed to pin down the cause of the fluid leaking form my left nipple and the fact that it contains red blood cells means they are np prepared to leave it. I have got to have an operation to removed part of my milk ducts for testing. Has anybody had this done. What was it like and did it take long to recover. Very nervouse to say the least.

  • Hi how are you just wondering if you found out your results was it happy news for you really hope it was let me know please xx
