Leukaemia symptoms but normal CBC

Hi, I’m 18 years old and I’ve been having a range of symptoms over the last few weeks. Bruising, nosebleeds, night sweats and weight loss etc, but all my bloods have come back normal? I have been to the Doctors several times, and one doctor (whilst doing a haematology referral) suggested that it could be leukaemia, and wants my bone marrow tested. I also have had a temperature for a few days now, and lymph nodes are slightly enlarged.

My question is would it be possible for this to be leukaemia if my bloods have been normal?

  • Welcome to our forum, Nnerise.

I'm sorry to hear that you have been feeling poorly over the last few weeks and that after seeing the doctors you're now left with this unanswered question, which I'm afraid I can't answer as I don't have a medical background.

Do you have another appointment with your doctors? If you don't and your symptoms don't subside perhaps it is a good idea to call and book one to check what could be causing you to feel this way.

Also, feel free to give our cancer nurses and ask any question you may have. Their lines are open Monday - Friday between 9 a.m - 5 p.m on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,

  • Woah! I’ve been having the same symptoms and honestly, my bloods have ALWAYS been off until all this stuff happened and now all of a sudden my bloods are normal. It makes no sense to me and beyond frustrating. I’m soaking my bed with sweat at least 3 times per week, I’ve started bruising insanely, no appetite and I’ve lost weight without trying. Not sure if spleen is swollen but to me it feels like it is. I’m exhausted ALL the time and low grade fever once in awhile. Not a lot though. I have been referred to the hematologist at the hospital but the wait is crazy long. (I’m Canadian). My GP keeps mentioning “blood cancer” but all my blood work keeps coming back normal (which Is completely abnormal for me) and I have no idea why I am feeling so beyond horrible and I’ll Nd why I have so many random bruises ALL over me! I’m at a loss and I feel like a hypochondriac if I keep going to the doctor when she keeps finding nothing in my blood work. I have an ultrasound booked to check my spleen in November. I’m at a loss and looking for answers.

  • Did you have any update? I'm having same problems

  • Any updates to this???

I'm going through the exact same thing.

  • Hi there ...

Ask for a red cell and white cell count ... my granddaughter was having no energy , unexplained bruising,   bleeding gums ...her Dr did blood tests and said she was just low in iron for about a year ...

She was diagnosed after going into A and E feeling so ill ... sadly hers was acute myeloid leukaemia...please know it's rare and you could all be fine ... but if they'd looked at her red and white cell count, she would have been caught earlier... so don't panic... but do be gently firm in asking for that blood test and asking for your results on cell count .... don't leave it... it's your health ...

Fingers crossed ... please let us know how you all go ... Chrissie x
