CA125 raised levels

This week I went to see my GP with perimenopausall issues. I mentioned to him that I feel my stomach up to my ribs is bloated and tight and feels uncomfortable.  He said he would add some further tests to the hormone bloods to mark for any tumours.  And a pelvic and stomach ultrasound wodo be ordered as well. Within 24 hours y bloods came back abnormal raised at 59. I am now on 2 week pathway to see gynae and have further tests. Peopl keep trying to reassure me that it might not be the big C but as I read more I realise I have been experiencing Ovarian cancer symptoms but thought it was just me putting on weight.

All my our bloods came back normal including the hormones which are strange as I havery multiple menopausal symptoms that are ruined the quality of my life.

I am 46 and am going crazy having to wait.

  • Hi, 3 months ago I had total hysterectomy and the abdomen lining bit too and cervix oh and appendix, all out. I had a 45cm ovarian cyst which I was told was probably not benign. it was pushing into my abdomen. When I think back it was possibly there for 5 years or so, which is quite scary. I thought my symptoms were peri menopause so left it. It was only in Sept last year I went to Dr and they found raised levels ca125, no idea what the number was though. It all happened pretty quickly then. Had the op which went well and they removed all the large mass. They had told me right from the start that it could be cancerous and to prepare myself and that I may need further treatment such as chemo. I somehow stayed strong with the help of friends and family. About month later got biopsy results and all clear. They confident they got all cyst out in one and it was pre cancerous stage a grade 1 lowest possible and no further treatment required. I was 2.5 stone lighter when I came out hospital! And a lot slimmer. Good to get it all done. No more bleeding, periods, no discomfort, I feel great. As in menopause now I am having hot flushes but can cope with that. I hope that all goes well with you.

  • That's great news! I have just had a letter to say the wait is up to 26 weeks to see the gynaecologist, my scan was all clear, just 1 small fibroid and raised CA125 so it's just waiting now! Xx

  • I think my appointment came through quicker than they said, I think I was down as if someone dropped out I would fill the space. So you may hear sooner. Good luck

  • Hi everyone, thanks for your posts. I had my CA125 level come back as 50 today. Super worried as my mum has just gone through treatment for late stage ovarian cancer. Waiting for US going to be horrible

  • Just wanted to respond as your story is maybe similar to mine.  My CA125 was 41 in August 2018, had an ultrasound and discovered a small cyst on left ovary and endometrial tissue. No follow up.  I went to the Dr regarding (historical) heavy periods last week, same symptoms and intermittent bloating etc,  had full bloods and received news that level is now 77. I've been booked in for urgent scan and again have had the life frightened out of me. Clearly something isn't right but you fear the worst.  A 3 month wait is terribly difficult. Hope all goes OK

  • Hiya I've had a letter from the gynaecologist 6 weeks ago to say they will see me in 8 weeks, the letter said to have a repeat blood test which I had on Friday! I should have a appointment within the next 2 weeks so should know more then!
It is a worry but my scan was clear so I don't know what to expect when I see the gynaecologist

I will let you once how it goes

Hope all goes well with you, try not to worry but I know that's easier said then done x

  • Hiya did you have the appointment with the gynaecologist? Hope it went ok!

  • Yes,it was last week after my first appointment being cancelled a month ago due to snow traffic chaos.  However I had another (3rd) blood test beforehand and my CA125 levels had come down to just above normal.  I was examined eternally and internally at my apointment and have to go back to have a hystoscopy (camera) to check for any abnormalities.  He also suggested I have a marina coil to help with my flooding periods and left groin pain.  They are no overally concerned and I think the camera us just a belt and braces check.  My anxiety was eased after getting my blood results .

  • Aw that's good news, at least its nothing too concerning x

  • Hi I have been having discomfort under my right rib cage - they did my bloods back in February and all came back ok - since then I have had an operation for something else and have just got over that. The discomfort is still under my rib cage and have had bloating so went to doctors they repeated bloods but added an ovarian tumour test. This came back 'quite high' I don't know what that means having seems some of your comments given in numbers. I am absolutely terrified it's the big c as mum died of cancer of the liver.  Trying not to worry but it's very hard.  Doctors have put me down the cancer pathway to have a scan on my pelvis. Don't know how long I will need to wait but 2 days in from finding out and can't help but worry like hell.

Any advice would be hugely grateful. Thank you.
