Lower left abdominal/side/back pain

Starting in January I’ve had this pain in my lower left side that radiates around my back and down my front pelvic area. I’ve had a transvaginal ultrasound showed nothing, blood and urine are clear, I have irregular very heavy with a lot of clotting menstruation. A few weeks ago I had laparoscopy looking for endometriosis nothing. My dr noted I have a very deep pelvis which is odd I’m only 5’1. I’ve had an endometrial biopsy come back clear. This pain was so intense in January I was unable to walk I missed over a months worth of work. When I massage my back where it hurts there is a hard “mass” I have no idea what it could be. The pain feels as if I’m walking around with a 10 ft sword protruding from my body and hitting it on everything. My obgyn is setting me under with a gastroenterologist we want to exhaust all other possibilities before removing my uterus and tubes hoping that will store the pain. I do have constipation recently started having mucous pass with my bowel movements when I’m able to pass them. Also, I started having pretty intense rectal pain during bowel movements even though they are seemingly soft.

Has anyone else experienced this?

  • My symptoms sound very similar to yours. I have been suffering from a dull/ achy pain in my left side for over a year now. It all started with the pain coupled with what felt like a UTI infection. I saw the doctors but they told me I did not have a UTI. The pain in my side continued so I was sent for bloods and a CT scan of my kidneys, both came back clear.

The pain now seems to be projecting into back and sometimes abdomen and is always worse when I'm lay down. In the past it has come and gone, but recently it seems to just be permanent. I am scheduled to go for another appointment to arrange more scans next week. No idea what is going on, but really just want to get to the bottom of it!

  • Any updates on the findings related to your symptoms? I am experiencing the same symptoms as you do and was told by the gp to call again if my symptoms get any worse before they will consider a scan. My bloods came back normal and negative for UTI.

  • I have all of these same symptoms! Lower left side pain like a heavy pressure get some more intense if I leeannfr lie on my left side shootin pain still true stomach when making bowl movement back pain my ultrasound and bloods are clear I have ibs originally anyway but these are not my normal syemtoms wi ibs feel like my doctors just foggin me off now because they don’t know have an answer starting to worrie as I keep getting dizzy spell so and the pressure pain isn’t goin away have had it weeks now and feel the doc isnt doing anything for me

  • It is so interesting to read all your messages on this. For 12 months now I have felt so alone experiencing much of what has been discussed here. I have gone from sleeping 9 to 10 hours a night to now getting 3 to 4 hours if I'm lucky. I need to wee 2 or 3 times a night - never used to before. But the worst part is the abdominal and lower back pain. It has become excruciating and has changed my life. I have had every blood test possible - all normal. I have had 5 abdominal scans and X-rays - all normal.I have had 2 colonoscopies and 2 gastroscopies - all normal. Ovarian ultrasound and X-ray - all normal. Small bowel MRI - all normal. There isn't anything else left to test yet I am still suffering so badly. I can't sit, stand or lie down for a long period of time as the pain just intensifies. And my painkillers have stopped working. Even had to move into the back bedroom so I don't keep waking up my other half. I'm so tired all the time and this makes me so irritable that it's probably not good being near me at the moment. Have seen two different gastroenterologists and have now been referred to a pain management consultant as the thought is it could be neurological pain stemming from my back to my abdomen. If only I could have one wish from the genie to please please stop my pain!

  • I've had pain in my left side for about 3 years now. I suffered with bladder pain previously and the specialist I see thinks it's  blood flow around kidney /inflammation. I had a cystoscopy which may have contributed. I am on long term antibiotics which have helped massively but the weird sensation is always still slightly there, pulsates when lying down. At my worst I couldn't stand for more than ten minutes due to increasing pain and stabbing, my armpits were in agony (which no doctor had an answer for!) felt as if I  had an object sewn into my back. I'd like a second opinion to make sure nothing else nasty is going on but don't know where to start, have had a clear ultrasound, and non contrast ct scan, plus mri on back 5 years ago. I am under treatment for a chronic uti despite clear dipstick/ culture as these are not that reliable as new research shows. I was previously diagnosed with bladder pain syndrome /ic which I now think was more likely untreated infection, urine dipstick tests always showed trace of blood.

  • Anyone else also experiencing constant bloating next to all these symptoms? I also have the lower left abdo pain that radiates to the back/hip. It's worse during my period but none of the tests my gynaecologist did came back with anything. I've had blood, urine, stool test, full abdominal, pelvic and transvaginal ultrasounds and nothing. The only thing that came back borderline positive was a SIBO test I paid for myself (as I get fed up waiting for doctors who just don't care). That could explain the extreme bloating, but I'm almost done with the treatment for that now and things are just not improving and it also feels like to me that there's something else going on as well as the digestive issues.

I'm so disheartened and it's so horrible to see that so many of us live with unexplained pain. I'm just so done having to convince doctors that the 'pain isn't all in my head' and beg for tests to be done. When I finally got referred to a (phone call!! with) a gastroenterologist after 4 months she refused to order any tests (based on a phone conversation) as my pain didn't sound 'bad enough' for her. I cried in front of doctors I was so frustrated and this thing has taken a huge toll on my relationships, work and mental health not to mention the physical.

I do hope everyone will get their answers someday but in the meantime maybe we can help eact other by continuing to share our stories.

  • Oh how things can happen in such a short time! Since my last comments in January I have spent 4 days in hospital with acute appendicitis leading to an appendectomy. During discussions with the consultant I mentioned all the issues I raised above and he told me that it could be likely that I had a grumbling appendix which finally came to a conclusion with surgery. Apparently you can have pain from an appendix (which can be across your abdomen not just on the right side) for weeks, months or even years. Since then my abdominal pain has gone (except for the tender spots left from the surgery). I can't believe that during 16 months and 5 different consultants no one even mentioned my appendix. I still have the usual bad back pain but my pain killers generally sort that out for me. I now sleep 6 to 7 hours a night which is a real treat! I've had to undergo a MRI on my pancreas as they found a cyst on a CT scan but hopefully this isn't an issue. I'm not medically trained so would never have thought of my appendix I just wish someone else had! Keep persevering with questions everyone until hopefully someone has a different answer that may resolve your pain.

  • Hi i got some Problem nobody cant found whats happenig ,did you sort whis or not ?

  • I have been told by a retired GP to ask for a coeliac blood test. She suffered for several years with these symptoms and after a lot of research found out that coeliac disease is a lot more common than originally thought, and can effect older women.

  • [@pamika]‍ hey! Did you get any answers about your pain? I'm experiencing similar issues and the only positive test I've had is a SIBO test. Thanks in advance!
