Lower left abdominal/side/back pain

Starting in January I’ve had this pain in my lower left side that radiates around my back and down my front pelvic area. I’ve had a transvaginal ultrasound showed nothing, blood and urine are clear, I have irregular very heavy with a lot of clotting menstruation. A few weeks ago I had laparoscopy looking for endometriosis nothing. My dr noted I have a very deep pelvis which is odd I’m only 5’1. I’ve had an endometrial biopsy come back clear. This pain was so intense in January I was unable to walk I missed over a months worth of work. When I massage my back where it hurts there is a hard “mass” I have no idea what it could be. The pain feels as if I’m walking around with a 10 ft sword protruding from my body and hitting it on everything. My obgyn is setting me under with a gastroenterologist we want to exhaust all other possibilities before removing my uterus and tubes hoping that will store the pain. I do have constipation recently started having mucous pass with my bowel movements when I’m able to pass them. Also, I started having pretty intense rectal pain during bowel movements even though they are seemingly soft.

Has anyone else experienced this?

  • I went for my regular doctor catch up yesterday and my abdomen was swollen and i was in a lot of pain so was sent to the surgical assessment unit In the hospital. I didn’t want to go as I knew I’d just be waiting hours for nothing! I went, they did the same tests as usual, couldn’t give me a CT without a specialist check as it would be too much radiation following previous scans. I was there for over 8 hours and came away with nothing. I was told I need to wait for my gastro app and also to have a gyny app as I could have cysts on my ovaries or endometriosis. To be honest, no one seems to have any idea and I’m just being passed back and forth with no answers! I just want the pain to stop. Getting to the point where I feel as though it’s ruining my life now. 8 months is ages

  • I had CT scan internal scan and told kidneys fine ovaries fine and no fibroids. Pain comes and goes and feel worse with periods. [@Doctorpatient]‍ is there a doctor that can read this thread and shed some light?

  • Hi Hollie,

yes thats what they are checking me for Saturday! I had a 12cm ovarian cyst 2 years ago on my right!! And I had urine infections constantly! And a burining sensation down below!

After a year of going back and fourth to doctors i ended up being rushed to hospital with kidney infection high temp and then rushed to surgery to have a stent fitted in kidney, where they found a tumour which ended up being the cyst! Which was later removed!

i have said the same for last 6 months! As same symptoms only difference is the blood in stools but I'm thinking is the cyst pushing on my intestines this time like it did my bladder!

goid luck I will let you know Sat if mine ends up being a ovarian cyst

  • How is everyone getting on? Anyone had any answers yet?

  • I had a ultrasound on keineys bladder and ovarrys this only showed a small fibroid 19mm she said it wouldn't cause pain! Also ha a colonoscopy last week which looked fine they took several biopsys!! So awaiating results now! Still having left side lower pain :( fed up keep going back and fourth to doctors!

  • Ive been to see a Gastro specialist and now I’m having a colonoscopy and an endoscopy. He said the fresh blood in my stools is new and from the colon and the dark blood is old and from the stomach. I will update when I’ve had them and I know more x

  • I’m new here. Had pain left side colon area, around waist to back and a bit lower down on right side. They sent me for an ultrascan of the womb which showed thickening and a small fibroid. Was fast tracked to gynae where I had a hystoroscopy. Fibroid was removed and biopsy done. There were cell changes. So they sent me for an MRI scan which took 90 minutes on Monday. Whole of pelvic area and liver. Takes about 14 days for results.I’m worried but there is not a lot I can do but just makes your unusual aches and pains worse.  All the times I have been to the Drs who said IBS and one listened.

  • Hi marset,

i was just reading your post and your symptoms seem similar to mine.

I’m being tested for inflammatory bowel disease or any problems down there my pain is exactly as you described.

I also have another underlying medical condition causing widespread pain and sharp pains that interrupt me walking with extreme fatigue. I have been referred to a rheumatologist to investigate this as it could be an autoimmune disorder or even something called “fibromyalgia” I wasn’t clued up with any of this I just told my GP I was suffering pain everywhere most days to the point I’ve had to take a break from work.

The pain and gastro problems started 1 year ago and I ignored the signs until it got this bad so don’t stop pushing when you’re suffering.

Maybe worth a mentioning this to your GP and get a second opinion.

Hope this helps. Feel free to message if you have any questions

    xx

  • hi

your pain and symptoms are identical to mine and I’m waiting for a colonoscopy to check for Bowel disease .

Just wanted to know Did you get any more answers?

    Thanks xx

  • hi,

i had had my colonoscopy and it showed inflammation in bowel which they think could of been caused by anti acid tablets and I also had 4 internal hameroids which they are going to band. Pain eventually eases about 3 weeks after colonoscopy and I have also stopped eating fruit veg with seeds so that could of helped  pain.

goodluck and hope you get answers soon xx
