Waiting for results

Hi all, I found out last Tuesday that I more than likely have breast cancer. I've had an ultrasound biopsy and then a mammogram biopsy on the same day. I didn't really take in much of what the radiographer said, as I was in shock but remember calcification and a second area 5cm behind the original lump that I found. I'm 48, have 2 children aged 8 and 11 and have never felt so scared and lonely in my life. I don't know what will be happening until 5th January

    Hi MamaK,

I am so glad to hear that you find it comforting to communicate with others on this site. Many of us find it cathartic to write and express how we feel to others who can appreciate our misery.

I am so sorry to hear that you are not 100% back to normal following your surgery.  When I was first diagnosed, I had empyema (pustular pleurisy) and was having difficulty in breathing.  They put me on to IV antibiotics for 2 weeks and I had to have the full open cholecystectomy, which left me with a large scar from breast to groin.  I stopped breathing under anaesthetic and had to wait a further 2 weeks with more IV antibiotics for my oesophagus to heal, before the surgeons could have a second attempt. Fortunately, that went well and I was relieved of a 3” gallstone. I was very sore where the scar was for over a year, but I lost the sickness immediately (had been vomiting and feeling continuously nauseous for many months), could breathe better, eat food again, managed to sleep straight away and sadly also put on weight again.

I felt very optimistic that you would feel the same, so your experience is disappointing.  What tests has your GP now ordered?  Has she contacted the surgeon to collaborate about how you are still feeling? I presume that your gall bladder was sent to pathology post-surgery?  When are you due to see the surgeon again or have you already had these results?

You have really been through the mill and I am so sorry to hear that you are still feeling so miserable. I hope that some of these additional tests will shed light on the real problem for you.

I am being tested again too. My lymphoedema nurse spotted a mole on my back when she was treating me. I have since seen my GP with it and am waiting to see a dermatologist with it. I could really do without adding skin cancer into the melting pot!

I am thinking of and praying for you to get release of all this discomfort. Don’t forget to keep in touch.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Jules,

I was just wondering how you are getting on now that your surgery is behind you? Where are you with chemo and do you need radiotherapy or not?

I sincerely hope that you are feeling less stressed now that the surgery is over.

    Love,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Lols,

    Welcome to the forum.

It is good to hear that your mammogram, ultrasound and chest x-ray  have all come back clear. There are some cancers which don't always show up with routine tests. Some consultants have worked with cancer patients for so long that they can almost sense cancer. This is probably why you have had your biopsy.

Waiting for results is always one of the most scary time of anyone's cancer journey. There are so many unknowns that it is all just too much to cope with. You will find that your emotions are all over the place at present and that tears are never far away. These feelings will improve as you get to know more about your diagnosis. You will naturally be worried with such a young family, but I am glad to hear that you have the support of a loving husband.

I hope that your biopsy results come through soon and, that they too are all clear. Do please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
