Right sided bowel cancer

Hi,

I'm hoping to hear other people's experiences with symptoms and bring diagnosed with right sided bowel cancer, if possible.

I am 32, so I don't think my GP is taking me seriously.

I had a colonoscopy 2years ago for a change in bowel habit and intermittent swelling in the right lower abdomen, after seeing a private surgeon. It was normal and biopsies normal too. Very reassuring at the time. I've been well since then until 5 months ago when I developed a constant pain in the right hand side. It is pretty much always there, a dull ache, and much worse when I'm moving around, and I can feel a sensation of fullness there in the area of pain. I can also now feel my right side colon all the way up to my ribs which is new. The last few days I've had a stabbing pain around my liver and collar bone too.

I know it must be hard for those with diagnoses to try to answer and reassure us worriers, and it is really helpful and kind.

I just hate being brushed off because I'm young.

Going to see a private colorectal surgeon again in 2 weeks which is next available, which will be worth every penny.

  • Hi,

I'm having exactly the same symptoms - pain that seems to move around on my right side, including my pelvis, flank, under rib, collar bone, lower back, lower abdomen and shoulder tip. I feel very nauseous too. All my bloods have come back fine, had a pelvic/renal ultrasound which was fine apart from a small ovarian cyst.

I guess I will have to book another doctors appoinment to continue the search!

    Amber

  • Hi Amber, interesting - sounds identcal.  I woke this morning and it was only too of my pelvis - as days gone on its  moved to right abdomen to the side.

I just got a call that I didn't know was being arranrged by my consultant aswell as Scopes, now MRI as well... hopefully will know by 27th....

    thanks Simon

  • Hi all,

I thought I would come on and join the discussion as I have been having the exact same pains that you guys have described! I have been googling this since my symptoms started in August trying to find anyone who shared similar issues and I've found nothing until this thread.

It started with a slight palpitation under my right rib, that comes and goes ever so often. And the same time coinciding with a pain just under my belly button (both sides, but mainly to the right). As time has gone on it has spread to my lower pelvic area, my back (lower and upper) and my left upper abdomen. Most of it is a dull ache apart from the spasms under my right rib. It feels like a constant pressure and never goes away. Over the past few weeks it has intensified to an on/off nausea, slight dizziness, and today diarrhoea (though that may be down to the stress).

Doctors seem to be dismissing it as IBS, but my symptoms don't improve by going to the toilet, and the pain never relents. I have had bloods and stool samples. Also pelvic/abdominal ultrasounds. So far all that it is showing is a slight kidney filtration issue, but the pain doesn't seem to be near the 'classic' kidney pain areas, so I don't think that's it. Everything seemed fine with my liver on the ultrasound and bloods. My other thought was gallbladder, but that didn't come up on my ultrasound either. I'm at a total loss! Having to take time off work now as the pain intensifies. Going to try and get a private MRI booked in as I'm fed up of waiting for the NHS.

I hope you guys manage to find answers soon.

  • Hi Allyo,

Sorry to read about your pain and issues - yes - sounds almost the same.  I've gone through all those thought you have and Gallatones was closest but I had a CT scan and they showed no issues .
I have scopes booked next week - both ends, and small bowel MRI the week after - my list now is down to muscular pain (no likely) Polyps and bowel/colon cancer. Non of which quite match the Symptoms, but I guess we are all different -   meeting with consultant on 27th and will share my results here.

  • Forgot to add - I did myself online blood stool test and CRP and both have been negative

And I'm really luck that my tests are private - that said, all this has still taken a year.

  • Hi I've been having stitch like pain in my lower right side since 5th December for the first week I could hardly move even to sit at the table to eat. I tried pain killers but they did nothing. My stomach was bloated I felt like I needed to pee often ,was constipated which is very unusual for me. I had no other symptoms,I wasn't passing blood ,didn't  have a temperature and didn't feel sick. I suffer from IBS so took Buscopan which seemed to help, after a week the pain had nearly gone, some days it goes altogether but appears when I wake up. It's still there today, it feels like stitch but I'm getting concerned as it's never lasted as long as this. I've spoken to my  DR who said to go to A&E which I don't want to do especially at this time. Does anybody recognise this is it IBS I hope so and not anything else

  • Hello Wende and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry about the symptoms you've been experiencing. They sound very challenging but I'm glad to see the Buscopan provided some temporary relief and that you've seen your GP.

Your reservations about going to the hospital at this time are completely understandable, but your doctor has recommended you go for a reason so it really would be best to follow their advice. If you're worried you can contact the NHS on 111 and speak with someone who can advise you further.

I hope you're able to get this resolved soon.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi

I've got exactly the same issues. After all the tests

upper endoscopy, lower endoscopy, AB CT, thorax CT, ultrasound, numerous bloods, stool and wee samples but other than a hiatus hernia, inguinal hernia and diverticula all come back fine. Now I'm on anti depressants (as my sister died of stomach cancer a few months ago) and omniprazol but still getting the right sided swelling and bubble under the rib feeling. Always seems to be gone in the morning before getting up though. I'm also at a loss of what to do next. I feel like my dr now dreds me phoning him almost every week!.

    regards

    Andy

  • Hello Andy,

I just wondered whether you have tried the low Fodmap diet? I had the same thing, but on the left. It improved once on the diet. Just an idea :)

    Jo

  • I have the very same issues and pain as detailed here. It has been going on just over 1 year now.

Pain in right side abdomen in between lower ribs and hip.  I sometimes also have pain around to my back pain on the right side, in to my lower shoulder and in my pelvis. Very occasionally  the pain is also in my groin (on the right) and right calf.  I seem to be gassy al of the time, my bowel movements are all over the place and sometimes very hard / others very loose (sorry).

I had a period of no pain between May and September last year, but since back with a vengeance.

I have adjusted diet, increased exercise (I didn't do any before really), cut out alcohol. Increased water intake.  All with little change - I do notice a slight difference with plenty of water and no meat in my diet.

I have had a chest X-ray, abodomen ultrasound, bloods and stools.  All seemingly normal apart from raised ALT and vitamin in bloods - which has to be retested in 2 weeks. I'm told it does not appear to be IBS, Crhons, IBD, etc.  No stones etc.

I have now been referred to a gastroenterologist and awaiting the appointment.

I am absolutely terrified it is something sinister. I worry about my kids and wife - I support them all, I am the only earner.  I can't afford private but have been paying for a lot of this privately. I am considering private gastroenterologist - I just can't stand not knowing what this is happening.
