Right sided bowel cancer

Hi,

I'm hoping to hear other people's experiences with symptoms and bring diagnosed with right sided bowel cancer, if possible.

I am 32, so I don't think my GP is taking me seriously.

I had a colonoscopy 2years ago for a change in bowel habit and intermittent swelling in the right lower abdomen, after seeing a private surgeon. It was normal and biopsies normal too. Very reassuring at the time. I've been well since then until 5 months ago when I developed a constant pain in the right hand side. It is pretty much always there, a dull ache, and much worse when I'm moving around, and I can feel a sensation of fullness there in the area of pain. I can also now feel my right side colon all the way up to my ribs which is new. The last few days I've had a stabbing pain around my liver and collar bone too.

I know it must be hard for those with diagnoses to try to answer and reassure us worriers, and it is really helpful and kind.

I just hate being brushed off because I'm young.

Going to see a private colorectal surgeon again in 2 weeks which is next available, which will be worth every penny.

  • Hi

Has anyone suggested you get your gall bladder checked out?

  • I've had a colonoscopy which was clear apart from mild diverticula and a CT scan which showed a small liver cyst so my gp is now sending me for an endoscopy as the pain is still uncomfortable in the centre of my abdomen. Still feeling extremely tired

  • Hello Budmoo،

I know it has been almost 2 years for your reply but I am having exactly the same symptoms as yours, so may I know what was your diagnosis and was it resolved after all? I hope you are fine now

  • I can also relate. Iv just posted actually: www.cancerresearchuk.org/.../worried-about-bowel-cancer-9

I’ve been having a lot of issues with right sided pain, it’s really hard to pin point cause it’s either lower right above belly button or under breast bone and around ribs to back. Iv been checked for gallstones, had upper abdominal scan, and pelvic scan and all normal. I had inflammation after a flair up and it showed high placelets for a couple of weeks when it went back to normal again. Any advice would be really welcome. I’m also suffering from terrible indigestion every morning particularly when needing to empty bowels. It then goes away later every day. I’m on Lansoprazole - it gets rid of the burning acid in throat but still getting indigestion. But I always have these sharp pains on my right hand side - it’s mainly sharp but a bit dull too. It really feels horrible.

  • oh yeah. I’m having colonoscopy and endoscopy on September 11th

  • I had an endoscopy which showed a hernia so on omeprazole 20mg for that, ct scan showed a simple cyst on the liver and ovary but blood test for ovarian cancer was normal. The stomach pain has improved but I'm still uncomfi under right rib and back and feel breathless sometimes and my nose feels stuffy but chest x-ray clear. Had so many tests these last 6 months but nothing significant found.

  • Hi I Cant Believe Its Getting On For Two Years Since I Posted About This!

So I Had My Bloods And Ultrasound Done And Both Came Back Fine. My Stool Sample Came Back With A Raised Calprotectin Level Of 113 (Inflammation). I Was Called Back In To See The Doctor For The Result, They Said That I Would Need A Retest In 3 Weeks.

I Suffer Pretty Bad With Anxiety And Had Convinced Myself That When I Had The Text Message And Letter To Go In To See A Doctor About My Results That I Was In Big Trouble... And I Google EVERYTHING So When I Came Out Of The Doctors I Googled Raised Calprotectin And Realised Then That IBS Doesn’t Cause Inflammation But IBD’s And You Know What Can, Well Lets Just Say I Was Completely Besides Myself With Worry. Within The 3 Weeks I Was Waiting For The Restesting Of My Stool I Went Back To The Doctors A Further Two Times For Reassurance Really. Anyway On The Last Visit Of The Two The Doctor Said He Would Refer Me To A Gastroenterologist If It Would Help.... “Yessss Pleaseeee!” I Actually Could Have Kissed Him. He Told Me That It Wouldn’t Be Fast Tracked As Obviously There Were People In Worse Shape Than Me That Needed It - And Of Course I Was Happy With Just Getting The Chance Of Seeing A Gastroenterologist And I Was Actually Thankful That I Wasn’t Being Fastracked Otherwise Id Have Known Then That There Was Cause For Concern.

I Religiously Followed The Low Fodmap Diet For 3 Weeks And The Pain/Discomfort Had Gone By The Time I Had The Retest Of The Stool Sample. It Came Back Within The Normal Range - Thank Goodness!

So It Took Roughly 10 Months To See This AMAZING Gastroenterologist Who Gave Me A Quick Examination (Just Pressing My Stomach) He Arranged For Me To Have Bloods, Stool Sample, Gastroscopy And A Small Bowel MRI. Bloods, Stool And MRI Were Fine (Apart From Being A Little Aneamic) And The Gastroscopy Showed A Hiatal Hernia, Gastritis And Oesophagitis. Was Put On Lansoprazole For 3 Months And Thats Pretty Much It! I Really Hope This Helps ...

Please Feel Free To Ask Anything You Want To Know x

  • Thanks so much for responding, really appreciate that. It's good to know outcomes. How are you feeling now with it all, do you feel better in regards to all the things you had/have? I have been looking up gastritus, hiatus hernia etc, for possible things that could be wrong with me. Never really thought about oesophagitus, however it's possible that I could have one or some of those things you mentioned. It all seems related some how. What I cant understand is the link between the somach/esophagus to the right sided pain. Did the gastrologist explain any of that to you at all? As you had mentioned you were getting right sided pain.I get really sharp pain on the right side, but then my heartburn/reflux, espogohus isses aren't near the pains I get on the right - they're more central.

  • Your More Than Welcome.. I Think Somewhere Along The Lines We’ve Got Our Wires Crossed - Mine Was On The Left. I Honestly Don’t Think For One Second The Hiatal Hernia, Oesophagitis Or The Gastritis Was The Reason For The Discomfort I Had Under My Ribs And I Guess I’ll Never Quite Understand Why I Had It But I Do Think Because Of When I Had It And What Made It a Better Was All Food Related. It Was Over The Christmas Period And It All Come To A Head On New Years Eve (What A Day To Feel Like That Ay, Great Start To The Year). I’d Been Eating Everything Like You Do At Christmas And Thats When I Had The Pain/Discomfort And Then Once Id Followed The Diet It Went...! I Will Just Say Though That This Wasn’t A Case Of Eating Something Dodgy, The Pain Was Unbelieveable. A Pain That You Just Couldn’t Get Rid Of, No Matter What Pain Relief I Was Taking It Made No Difference. I Couldn’t Sleep As I Was That Uncomfortable - Couldn’t Do Anything But Cry. Not Sure Whether Youve Ever Been Pregnant And Had The Baby Get Something Stuck Up Under Your Ribs But Thats What It Was Like But It Just Never Moved. I Was Like That Non Stop Until About A Week After Following The Low Fodmap Diet And Then It Went. Since Then I’ve Had It Again Once Or Twice But Not To The Same Extent. I’ve Then Watched What I’ve Eaten And Thankfully It’s Gone. I Just Know That It Isnt IBS That Causes The Inflammation, But Wasn’t Sure That Food Can Either. The Body Is An Amazing Thing Isnt It, I Don’t Think We’ll Ever Quite Understand The Way It Works Sometimes. Inbox Me If You Feel It Easier -

How Long Have You Had Yours For?

Whats The Pain Like, Can You Liken It To Anything?

Is It There All The Time?

  • Hello ! First I would like to thank you for replying back in details and quickly eventhough a long time has passed and I am really happy that your suffer has come to an end! I have had this left side stitch like feeling from below the ribs and goingh through my side backwards for about 2 months now and i feel all this side is swallen( similar to yours i i believe?) .  I also wake up every night from the discomfort pain on this side beside feeling bloated/ gassy then no chance of sleeping again. May I ask if you have had any bowel or disesgtion issues that time ? Knowing your diagnosis is a good reference to understand what else might cause it when GP or specialist feels not sure what it can be and the biggest problem will always be the long wait of NHS with all the suffer! Again thanks for replying back and I will do also post any updates once i get diagnosed and the pain is resolved :)
