Dull aching in right leg

Hiya,

My name is Emma, im 18 and am getting concerned about pains in my right leg.

As I can recall, I've been getting the pain for about a year or so but it isn't constant, it comes about every couple of months or so. I started to think this might not be quite right last week when I got the pain again (it's like a really heavy, dull ache which feels deep, in my bone rather than muscular and resembles an intense sort of growing pain). It came on in the evening and continued into the night, keeping me awake until the early hours of the morning. It doesn't seem to be affected with movement, if anything it is worse when I'm still or laying in bed. The bulk of the pain was in my thigh nearish my knee but it radiated down my leg then a bit into my pelvis.

I'm hoping to book an appointment with the GP soon but fear they may just overlook it as muscluar or no important as it's not constant. But I'm getting pretty worried about it as there is no obvious reason for this pain at all, I haven't injured my leg and surely I'm past the age of growing pains now, equally I've always known growing pains to affect both legs rather than one.

I'd be grateful if anyone can help with suggestions or their own personal expereicences, thank you!

Emma

  • Hiya Emma

Did you ever find out what caused your leg ache? I'm experiencing something very familiar at the moment and would love to know the outcome! Xx

  • Hi everyone

I too have been suffering on and off with this leg pain for about 8 months now, sometimes it goes away by itself after a few days and other times it effects all my leg where I get pins and needles literally to the bottom of my foot and numbness, sore to touch and feeling inflamed. But when it's not like that it's just "there" I've found taking vitamin D everyday helps, and ibuprofen when it's really bad. I've had an mri to see if it's nerve related but that was all ok, blood tests too so going to contact my gp and see if they can do a MRI on the actual area (the last one was on the bottom of my back where the nerves are)

I would love to know if anyone figured out what it was, seems there are quite a few of us experiencing this strange thing but no outcome. I feel mine is worse at night, tight clothes don't help and neither does sitting I.e driving etc.

    I hope it's not DVT as I'm only 30.

  • Hi everyone

just an update, my doctor is now sending me for an X-ray on my thigh and hip bone and said this can cause pain similar to what we are experiencing, he asked what I thought, I said I hope it's not DVT or a blood clot. He said it's almost most positively not as there would be swelling redness and other usually tell tell signs in the back of the leg too. He thinks it's something called Meralgia Paresthetica. Google it, it could well be. That's where I am at with all of this, thanks for reading I hope it's helped.

    Hi Froggyamy,

It is good news that your doctor has ruled out a DVT and, is referring you for an x-ray. I hope that you get further answers soon. Please keep us in the loop.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi guys I've been reading all these post's hoping to find some answers.

For the last few months ive had a ache on my left hip area which then started to move down my leg. Ive had blood test and an xray. All ok. The ache has now moved to most of my left side, once again more blood tests, all ok.

Im now just starting to get a throbbing ache behind my left knee and on my left thigh. Feels like a constent dead leg. Im guessing more bood tests! Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi Auntynetty,

A very warm welcome to our forum.  I'm sorry that I cannot answer your question as I am not a doctor. Most of us on this forum either have cancer ourselves or are caring for someone who has cancer. It sounds as if your GP is the best person to investigate these aches, as s/he will have all of your medical details to hand, which should help with a diagnosis.

I do hope that you get a diagnosis soon. Please keep in touch and let us know when you finally discover the cause.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • I have known about a blood clot in a vein which send blood to the liver. because of this clot,  I have had bleeds in my oesophagus.  I have just come home today after an 8 day stay in hospital. the hospital had decided to start me on blood thinners a high dose. The down side to these thinners is I could have another bleed.  I need this clot to disolve, even before  I can be given an appointment to be put on a liver transplant list.  I feel like I'm dammed if I do and dammed if I don't. It was put bluntly in no certain terms,  If this clot does not disolve. I will not be considered for a  liver transplant.  because my liver has severe cirrhosis,  I will eventually have liver failure. followed by death with in a short time frame.

I wouldn't mind if all this was down to smoking and drink. non of which I have parttaken in. never indulged ir recreational drugs. I could then accept whats happening. I don't have a problem with any of my body parts being donated. But to be honest I have diabetes so wouldn,t know if any organs would be fit to be used. I should say I lost my wife in July to aggressive  bowel cancer.  perhaps I'm being morbid but knowing that she will be waiting for me if there is anything after life. I'll keep an open mind,  But I'm not looking to be converted.  Each to their own.

    Hi Blobs,

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your wife in July. It sounds as if you have had a particularly difficult time with your own health since. It does seem particularly unfair that you are having this bother, even though you do not fall into the usual category for liver problems.

I am glad to hear that you are now out of hospital and hope that your blood thinning drugs help to resolve your clot and, that you can soon be put on the liver transplant list.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
