Dull aching in right leg

Hiya,

My name is Emma, im 18 and am getting concerned about pains in my right leg.

As I can recall, I've been getting the pain for about a year or so but it isn't constant, it comes about every couple of months or so. I started to think this might not be quite right last week when I got the pain again (it's like a really heavy, dull ache which feels deep, in my bone rather than muscular and resembles an intense sort of growing pain). It came on in the evening and continued into the night, keeping me awake until the early hours of the morning. It doesn't seem to be affected with movement, if anything it is worse when I'm still or laying in bed. The bulk of the pain was in my thigh nearish my knee but it radiated down my leg then a bit into my pelvis.

I'm hoping to book an appointment with the GP soon but fear they may just overlook it as muscluar or no important as it's not constant. But I'm getting pretty worried about it as there is no obvious reason for this pain at all, I haven't injured my leg and surely I'm past the age of growing pains now, equally I've always known growing pains to affect both legs rather than one.

I'd be grateful if anyone can help with suggestions or their own personal expereicences, thank you!

Emma

    Hi RainbowButterfly,

    Welcome to our forum.

I am so sorry to hear that you are having leg pains too. Don't give up on phoning your GP until you get an appointment. I am sorry, but I have no knowledge of suitable medicines for this. Your GP should be able to supply something to help.

It is certainly strange that the pain stopped for 10 days after you had the procedure on your cervix, but that it has now returned.

I sincerely hope that you get an appointment soon and that you get some answers for your symptoms.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regarsds,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Am,

Welcome to our forum. I am so sorryto hear that you are having painful legs too. I am not a doctor, but I'd be pretty sure that these are not growing pains at 19. It might be worth seeing your GP in the first instance, as I've a feeling that one of the side-effects of Depo injections can be a Deep Vein Thrombosis. Make an appointment to get your leg checked out.

Please let us know the outcome. We are always here for you.
    Kind regards,
    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine & Am28

Thank you for your responces to my message,

It has taken me ages to get an appointment, but I managed to finally get one this week and a blood test 2 days later.

Now to just wait on blood results,

Dr has suggested it may just be inflammation and a coincidence that it stopped at that time.

Am28 sorry i have no suggestions, but please ask for a follow up if you can, I have always just made excuses and got on with it, but I now realise this outlook could leave me open to things worsening. I'm now going to try and find the reason behind my pain, we shouldn't have to live with this with no explanation for it.
I really hope you can find some answers soon.

    Hi RainbowButterfly,

    Thank you for the update,

I am glad to hear that you have seen your GP and that you are now waiting for the results of your blood tests. Did your doctor say when you would get the results?

I cannot say that I would be satisfied with a diagnosis of 'it  may be inflammation and a coincidence that it stopped for a time'.

Make sure that this is investigated properly now that you are in the system. Check for circulatory, neurological and arthritic changes. Have you been given any medication for the pain and if so, has it made any difference?

Please let us know how you get on.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Results should be back mid next week, not been given anything but told to take ibroprofen when needed, I've been trying to keep note and it can be if I'm active or resting and not restricted to one area but is just one leg.

I'll update when I have something, enjoy the weekend x

    Hi Rainbow/Butterfly,

You've not got too long to wait then, which is good. Does the pain affect the whole leg or just a part, for example upper or lower leg?

I'll keep a look out for your update and, hope that you get a logical reason for the pain.
    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Emma!!

I'm 16 and I've been having the exact same issue- it started off a few years ago and I passed it off as growing pains, but at Christmas it became a lot more prominent. It seems to manifest itself more when I'm sitting still so it's definitely not exercise related (although I am very active). Sometimes it's paired with tight muscle cramps that I have to physically stretch out, and sometimes there's shooting pains- went to GP a few weeks back- she couldn't find any swelling or abnormalities and she suspected sciatica, but since then it's become more widespread. I was starting to suspect some sort of fibromyalgia but now that I've found this I've calmed down a bit. Maybe there's some odd unnamed pain disease we all have in one leg It's quite interesting!! How are you doing now?

  • Hi.

i was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer on 29th January. Had a lumpectomy on the 29th feb and now awaiting a date for chemotherapy. The dr said he got the cancer out which was 15mm had clear margins and clear lymph nodes.
I am worried as I have been getting really bad leg pain in my left leg for the past 5 weeks. My GP sent me to check if it was a DVT. Bloods came back negative so they said it wasn't that.
I have told my surgeon about the leg pain but he said it may be stress related, I'm worried as the pain feels like it's deep in my bones and keeping my awake at night. My GP gave me gabapentin to try it even that doesn't work.
Before my op I did have a CT scan which was clear, but I'm wondering what else I can ask for as no one seems to be listening to me. X
