Dull aching in right leg

Hiya,

My name is Emma, im 18 and am getting concerned about pains in my right leg.

As I can recall, I've been getting the pain for about a year or so but it isn't constant, it comes about every couple of months or so. I started to think this might not be quite right last week when I got the pain again (it's like a really heavy, dull ache which feels deep, in my bone rather than muscular and resembles an intense sort of growing pain). It came on in the evening and continued into the night, keeping me awake until the early hours of the morning. It doesn't seem to be affected with movement, if anything it is worse when I'm still or laying in bed. The bulk of the pain was in my thigh nearish my knee but it radiated down my leg then a bit into my pelvis.

I'm hoping to book an appointment with the GP soon but fear they may just overlook it as muscluar or no important as it's not constant. But I'm getting pretty worried about it as there is no obvious reason for this pain at all, I haven't injured my leg and surely I'm past the age of growing pains now, equally I've always known growing pains to affect both legs rather than one.

I'd be grateful if anyone can help with suggestions or their own personal expereicences, thank you!

Emma

  • So I have been having same problems in my right leg for 6 months+.  Dull deep ache feels like it is in the bone.  No pain when i exercise but hurts when sitting watching tv, first thing in the morning etc.  Had xray and all clear.  No abnormalities in bone.  Had blood tests for everything and all clear.  Has anyone tried physio?  Doctor cannot offer any explanation so feeling rather fustrated.

    Hi Ks,

I just wondered how you are getting on. Have you managed to see your GP yet and, have you had a serious talk with your parents about the ache in your legs?

I sincerely hope that you have made some strides with your dilemma.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Pepperpot,

I am sorry to hear that you have been affected by similar symptoms. Have you got cancer? I ask because there are many other reasons for such symptoms.

I have similar problems in my legs which have been attributed to Diabetic Neuropathy. I have had these since May, 2006. I have tried physio, but didn't find it any help.

I have regular bone scans to ensure that my medication for breast cancer hasn't affected my bones and, so far these have fortunately always been clear.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Miamegan,

    Thank you for your advice.

I just had to reply to say how truly sorry I am to hear about the loss of your 17 year old daughter. I cannot even imagine how I would cope if this were to happen to my daughter. I lost a brother when he was only 28 and, I do know just how devastating that was for all the family, but especially for my mum.

You are quite right, not enough credence is given to these sort of pains by the medical profession, as there are so many other things that could be the cause.

I wish that there was a way of turning back the clock for your daughter and having procedures properly adhered to. Sadly, there isn't, but I do offer my sincere condolences to you and your family.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi

ive also been getting aching but in both legs. It comes on at night and lasts til mid afternoon.

it start from my thighs and then down to my shins.

i normally get it whilst on my period but this has lasted a few days whilst not on my period.

i don’t want to bother the GP unnecessarily. I’ve googled it (as you do) and the systems can be so many different things.

    Any advice?

    Thanks

    Hi Kel,

    Welcome to the forum,

I am sorry to hear about your leg pain and do hope that you will consult your GP about it. You are not doing this unecessarily. It could be a number of different things as you've already discovered.

I sincerely hope that it issomething less serious than cancer.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi all

Thank you firstly for all the information on here.  I have been getting these pains for a few months now but it alternates between both thighs.  It is a deep dull aching pain and sometimes it is a throbbing pain.  It comes and goes and can be whilst sleeping (which has caused me to wake up because it is so uncomfortable) or driving or at anytime but I don't get it everyday.  It came on in my right thigh today (about 3pm while I was at work) and has been constantly aching and throbbing to the point that I have had to take some pain killers.  It is so painful still tonight that I have finally googled it and this is what has brought me to this forum.  I am 54 and think I am peri menopausal so have been putting it down to that but I think I am going to phone the doctors tomorrow and get an appointment.  It always seems to be on the outer sides of my thighs all the way down to my knees and sometimes it moves slightly round to the inner thigh.  It feels as if it is getting worse. It is defninitely not muscular as I exercise and know what overdoing it at the gym feels like.

I welcome any feedback and will also let you know how I get on.

    Many thanks x
