First appointment with haematology next week

Hi all,

I have an app with haematology next week - it's my initial appointment. I've been urgently referred to the haematology to rule Lymphoma (I've got swollen lymph nodes, shortness of breath, fatigue etc). I'm thinking that the consultant may want to do a biopsy of the lymph node(s) and just wondered if anyone had any experience of this? I've got one on my jaw (like a marble) and one under my armpit (like a hard pea, attached to the inside of my skin, if that makes sense). I'm worried as I have young children and will have quite a lot to juggle if it does turn out to be lymphoma and I need treatment. I have an odd feeling that it is going to be lymphoma. Any advice would be really appreciated - thanks everyone x

  • Hi I'm going through similar at the moment. I have swelling in a neck lymph node and a mass in my chest near a lymph gland or thymus gland. My symptoms are the same as yours except for shortness of breath. So I had my needle biopsy to the neck last week (they took 4 samples of tissue therefore 4 injections into the node) and whilst the needle was big the procedure was fine, only slightly uncomfortable and doctor put me at ease by talking through what he's doing. I've just called the hospital and they have my results but have scheduled an appointment for next Thursday - I can't bring myself to have them over the telephone. Hope this helps.
  • Good luck for next Thursday. I have my initial appointment next Thurs. Did they do the needle biopsy at your initial appointment? I'm wondering if I should prepare myself for that just in case.

Keep me posted on how you go. Hope your results are ok x

  • Hello, I'm sorry to hear about both of your situations.

unfortjnately, I am also going through a similar time with suspected lymphoma. I have now had a core needle biopsy (which was undiagnostic) 2 CT scans, a PET scan & on Thursday I had some lymph nodes removed under general anaesthetic.

unfortjnately the process to lead to diagnosis has been over a month, & I still don't have an answer.

the core needle biopsy wasn't too unpleasant & was over fairly quickly if you do need to go down that route- this was done during an ultrasound scan appointment for me.

please keep us posted with updates xx

  • Thanks for replying. I hope you don’t have to wait too much longer for your results. Any idea when you might hear back? I hate waiting. The possibility of Lymphoma is on my mind all day and all night; I just want to know one way or another. Keeping my fingers crossed for you - keep us posted on ur results x

  • I have a clinical haematology appointment next Wednesday I was wondering what people had on their first appointment

    Kind regards
