Lumps in neck and groin

Hey, I thought I'd post on here as opposed to trawling through google self diagnosing myself!

So I've had a lump in my groin for about 18 months and have seen my GP twice re this. I was advised to return if it gets to the size of a 'hazelnut'!!

I've also had a lump on the right side of my neck in between my collarbone and ear. The lump is painless and moves slightly when pressed. It has been there for a few months and growing, but slowly.

Also since December I've been having night sweats. Some nights are worse than others and it isn't every night but very unpleasant when it it does happen.

putting all this together is a little alarming. I know I can't get a diagnosis on here but just wondering whether anyone has had similar symptoms...

Thanks in advance,

Emma

  • Hi Emmajnew That sounds really concerning. Have you tried considering a second opinion? Every lump of unknown nature should be taken seriously until proven benign thats what my doctor told me. Early detection plays an important role in having a more favorable treatment options, response, and prognosis. Not to mention that being in the limbo will deprived you of your peace of mind. Hope that you'll soon get a relieve from your concerns.
  • Hi Emma I had lump in groin and dr ordered an ultrasound on December 15th 2016 and the radiologist told me straight away that it was lymphoma...on January 28th I had op to have lump removed then was diagnosed for sure that it was lymphoma...I'm now awaiting radiation treatment...prior to all this I was having night sweats...fatigued and over all Christmas til about Jan 6th had a severe chest infection and bronchitis...and just after being in hospital with acute pains now have a severe urine infection which has caused a kidney infection. I would seriously ask your dr to send you for an ultrasound...some lymphoma can be slow growing but it's best to get this sorted sooner rather than later Wish you well x
  • hey Emma, I would insist that the dr refer you for tests and if he/she won't go to another dr. This happened to my mother, the dr had her waiting around for weeks and finally had her referred for tests and we had the diagnoses of non-hodgkins lymphoma but the hospital wasn't happy the dr waited so long. I'm not saying that's what you have but the symptoms you have told us about can occur in lymphoma. Time is of the essence so please get yourself checked out again. god bless Antoni.
  • Hi,

many thanks for your response. I have seen 2 different doctors re this lump in my groin and both times have been quite dismissive which is why I've been reluctant to go back. But I will make another appointment for next week to discuss the other symptoms.

     Take care,

    Emma

i will be calling my gp next week to talk through my other symptoms and hopefully they take notice of me this time.

I wish you well for your recovery x

  • Hi, I've had a similar situation, months of feeling tired and sweaty, months of trying to get the docs to send me for an ultrasound on a lump in my neck. Finally had a scan, i have a lymph node nodule, waiting now for ent to see me. I imagine everyone who's written of this site looking for advice is absolutely terrified. But i also imagine only a very small amount of them were actually diagnosed with a cancer of some type. This gives me hope. Keep going back to your docs, see a different one, keep pestering, tell them exactly what your scared of, tell them it's affecting your day to day life, and demand they test you!!!  Hope you get them :)

  • Hey Emma,

Sadly my mother passed away from it but thank you anyway. Initially the Dr was also dismissive and that's what led to the delay. Please don't let him fob you off... all lumps and bumps needs to be taken seriously and no dr should ever be dismissive.

please keep us informed on how you get on ...

    god bless,

  • Hi Leanne,

    Thanks for your response.

i went back to see the GP this morning (even got an app first thing Monday Monday!!)

So she did an examination of my neck and found a few more small lumps around my collarbone area. She has referred me for a long list of blood tests, I suppose to rule out other things too.

wishing you all the very best with everything x

  • Hi Antonio,

im so sorry to hear about your mother. It's such a cruel and horrible disease!

I went to see the GP this morning and after finding a few more smaller lumps around my collarbone she's sending me for a full list of bloods to be done. I suppose the elimination process begins.

    Take care,

    Emma x
