Could this be Bowel / Stomach Cancer

Hi all

In about December my stomach started playing up, i had one day of diarrhoea that did go quickly.  Anyways since then all day every day my stomach has been making loud and i mean loud gurgling / rumbling noises.  Everyone around me can hear them and its worse after i have eaten but they are there all the time.

Before Christmas i did go and see a GP (not mine as he was on Holiday) she was very dismissive and although she did a physical check of my stomach bascially sent me on my way and made me feel like i had waisted her time.

So on to today..the noises are still there louder than ever and show no sign of going away.  I am going to make an appointment with my GP but waiting times are about a week, I am 41 year old male by the way.

Could this be a sign i have bowel / Stomach Cancer? Dr google is freaking me out and i am conviced i now have that.

Thanks for any input

Chris

  • Hi Sau123,

I have the same symptoms, persistent stomach noise, abdominal discomfort. My fecal test came today and positive for blood. The GP said he will refer me to specialist for further check up.He daid they will use camera..Dr Google is freaking me out and worried that i might have a colon cancer.Im 53 yrs old.

I dont have the other symptoms like nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, weight lost, fatigue, only noisy stomach amd theand the blood they found in my poo...

  • Hi there

i had exactly those symptoms. I had a sigmoidoscopy where they found diverticulitis and a polyp. They sent it off for biopsy where it came back with low grade cancer cells. I then had a full colonoscopy and nothing else was found. Because the polyp was removed there's nothing further to be done except colonoscopies every 5 years. I'm 47. I know it's hard but try not to google and wait for your appointment where you will get the answers you need. Good luck!!

  • Hello everyone,

I've had a read through this thread after experiencing symptoms myself and I just want to say how sorry I am that you have to all go through this, it sucks and I know you're all strong, we'll make it through this somehow.

I was reading this thread because as I said, I've been having symptoms too, very similar to what is being mentioned here. Noisy stomach gurgles unrelated to hunger, sometimes diarrhea, sometimes constipation, pain across the stomach area but mostly on my left lower side. I had a stool sample done, came back clear. Blood test done, only came back with an unrelated folic acid deficiency. They diagnosed me with IBS as my mother has it too (mum was diagnosed in 2017 and had colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy and endoscopy) but I'm pretty sure it's not hereditary and I know how many people are misdiagnosed with it so I persist to worry. I'm 16 as this has been going on since April 2020. I'm due for another blood test soon for my folate deficiency, but I was thinking of using that time on the phone to speak to the doctor about my concerns and possibly ask for a colonoscopy. Yet I fear I'm going to be turned down because of COVID. My parents are not worried at all, and my mum gets angry at me when I ask to contact the doctor since her phone number is still the line of contact the doctors have for me because of my age. Just very scared at this point and worried it's something worse.

    Hope all are doing well,

    ~Ellie

  • Hi all,

I randomly came across this thread and it's the first time I've even seen people have the same symptoms as me. Really happy it's not just me, whenever I explain this to the GP it's like she's never heard of it. The whole rumbling / noisy stomach thing has been at me for over a year and still nobody has any clue what it is. There's no pain whatsoever, just very very inconvenient and keeps me up for hours at night.

I had an endoscopy last year and they found a hiatus hernia but I'm pretty sure that's unrelated. Also last month I had a colonoscopy and annoyingly, nothing found there.

IBS seems to be common with people here and maybe it could be that (?) but GP never mentioned it. After the colonoscopy I'm back to square one but I'm glad I found other people in a similar boat.

Also to Ellie ^ it's a bit reassuring I'm not the only young person with this. I'm 19 now but had all sorts of weird stomach things since 16, hopefully it doesn't turn out to be a long term thing! (Maybe it's similar in UK, but the colonoscopy still went ahead in my Irish hospital by the way!)

    Keep well,

    Adam

  • Hi Adam,

I just want to say it's the same here, the fact that I'm not the only young person going through this is super reassuring! I hope you're keeping well and that you've managed to get closer to an answer somehow.

As for me, my blood test to check my folate levels came back completely fine, so I was back to square one too and it was really frustrating. That was until I went to the toilet one morning and noticed blood in my stool and knew I had to call the GP again. They got me to do another stool sample, and while it didn't show blood and it isn't a definitive answer, it came back positive for inflammation. I'm due to have another blood and stool test in a few weeks, but the doctor has let me know that now it is unlikely that this is IBS. This is a different GP from the one that told me I had IBS, as this one said it was completely wrong of them to diagnose me with it in the first place!

I'm still having pains, diarrhoea, occasionally blood, but it's slowly becoming my new normal so I'm just having to get used to it for now. The GP has told me that this is most likely IBD (Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis), but hasn't ruled out diverticulosis, endometriosis, or something worse (god forbid). If anyone is worried about their journey with the same symptoms, I'll keep posted on mine to let you know what it is. I hope everyone is doing okay here! You too, Adam! :)

    I hope you're all well,

    Ellie

  • Hello,

    I am 34 M,

In May I was waking up gasping for air, I believe it's called sleep aponea? So I went to the A&E on the advice of NHS111, my shoddy  hospital put me in with the covid patients. Since then I have had gut noises and they are becoming harder to get rid off, my GP is calling it IBS, thankfully they have referred me to CT scan, which I took yesterday. It's been three months since the first noises started. My advice to anybody with similar is to stay calm, get a referal and dont rush off down to A&E if it isnt an accident or an emergency, they wont help. Eat well, sleep and drink plenty of water. I will let you know the outcome if I can.

    Keepcalm

  • Ellie,

You are 16, there are a lot of dangerous articles on the internet that look helpful, trust your parents to make the right choices for your health.

  • Hi

I really hope everyone is well!

I have had so many of these symptoms - started back in Feb and have been consistent; i had b llods in feb they were normal so to docs referred me to Gastro - they werent concerned as i am only 35.

This last month i have been really poorly blood in stools, nausea, pain in stomach etc & they upated my referral to urgent; however the clinic said i do not meet the key markers for concern due to my age so it can be up to another 26 weeks wait..... im worried and fed up.

I guess the fact that the Drs arent concerned should be comforting but they have ruled out haemmaroids so i guess it has to be something - scary times!!

  • Hi sau123

I've just read your post im going through the same situation at this moment in time, I have pain in my right side that goes into my abdomen and round to the lower part of my back. I also get pain when I'm going to the toilet and when passing wind. I've had this on and off for over 3 and half years now my doctors haven't sorted it out I've had all sorts that it could have been ie appendix, gallstones, IBS, gastroenteritis and so on I've had an ultrasound came back negative,  blood tests which something was low but changed after a week or so I've recently had a urine sample no sign of infection but I have a small amount of blood in my urine which is still there at this moment in time I'm still getting the pain and it seems to be getting worse I've had a CT scan recently so awaiting results from that because they think it could be possible kidney stones I wished they could tell me what it is and I could get this sorted once and for all I hope you get yours sorted soon good luck

  • Read through the discussions, sadly awake due to pain and thinking that so many people like me are going through this. The pain and other issues started suddenly in 2018 and after a while disappeared. Now, I am experiencing the same symptoms but worse. I'm awake during sleep due to a burrowing mid abdominal pain, has lot off gas, growling sounds which gets louder and louder, but the sad thing is that GP, and even I managed to meet a gastro specialist, nobody seems to understand what we are going through. It's been over a month, and this comes and goes, is unpredictable and bothers too much. The blood tests are fine, abdominal ultrasound is normal, I'm on omeprazole, but the symptoms are still there. Do not know what to do further.
