Could this be Bowel / Stomach Cancer

Hi all

In about December my stomach started playing up, i had one day of diarrhoea that did go quickly.  Anyways since then all day every day my stomach has been making loud and i mean loud gurgling / rumbling noises.  Everyone around me can hear them and its worse after i have eaten but they are there all the time.

Before Christmas i did go and see a GP (not mine as he was on Holiday) she was very dismissive and although she did a physical check of my stomach bascially sent me on my way and made me feel like i had waisted her time.

So on to today..the noises are still there louder than ever and show no sign of going away.  I am going to make an appointment with my GP but waiting times are about a week, I am 41 year old male by the way.

Could this be a sign i have bowel / Stomach Cancer? Dr google is freaking me out and i am conviced i now have that.

Thanks for any input

Chris

  • Hi DeanMarine so sorry to hear of your diagnosis,.I've been having bad pain in chest area and to left under breast(where ribs are) awful gurgling in that area and stomach, been constipated for weeks so given movicol, now dioreaha because of it,pain gets worse later afternoon and at night,I've had an endoscopy down throat as they suspected acid reflux but that came back normal, bloods come back normal,I prop the head of my bed up cause it's worse if laying flat,it feels like something stuck in my chest area when swallow, and have some pain in low abdomen but the pain in left side and chest area is worse,..I've got an ultrasound scan being done on my abdomen area on the 29th of Feb 2020,.would you say a ct scan and colonoscopy should be done or would MRI be better?I'm really scared now cause it's been going on for roughly 5 months and getting worse by the week.

  • Hi Dean

I know this is a bit of an old post now and I cant see an update of your situation however as a long term IBS sufferer I just wanted to pass on some learned advice. Vegetables, wheat and whey (ie milk products) all cause my symptoms to flare up. I am in agony, with constant popping and wind that smells like something has died. In fact I cannot eat fruit or veg in any form much. Salad a citus seem ok, all of which goes in the face of the usual advice IBS sufferers are given, so vegan is possibly one of the worst diets for an IBS sufferer. Have a look at low fiber and the FODMAP diet, a combination of which seems to work for me. Fat is the answer for me. High fat foods are fine as well as highly processed foods. Think slipery food which has near enough already been digested. Also try not to combine protein and carbs, ie meat and potato. I have also found using 2 Biokult multistrain probiotics a day wonderful. This syndrome is miserable to live with and before I restricted my diet I would spend nights vomiting and constantly in pain. If I go off it and it flares up I cannot resolve the issue until I clear out my stomach with laxitives and go back to good eating habits again. It is a constant nighmare. Good luck and I hope you get your issue under control.

  • Hi there. Can I ask how this turned out as you described exactly how I feel. There's a connection to my left side that isn't painful but tender. Like something is going on there. Thanks so much.

  • Can I ask how did you get on in the end regarding your situation please as that's exactly how I've being feeling since March this year typical can hardly see a doctor atm.

  • I posted earlier in the year, I had bleeding and was referred for what I thought was a sigmoidoscopy, when I got to the hospital is was for a colonoscopy, I was scared and thought about sedation. After talking through with a nurse I decided not to have sedation and they just offered gas and air if needed. I was glad because recovery was so quick and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. They found a slight thickening and took biopsies but everything came back clear. I have changed my diet and eat much healthier and balanced and everything seems back to normal. I think getting checked as soon as possible is the best thing. Much better than worrying and googaling. Hope everyone is OK, take care x

  • Hi, thanks for your reply. I was diagnosed with severe bile acid malabsorption in February 2020 so now take medication every day to help with my symptoms. I still suffer but not as badly as I did at the beginning. Hope you're ok and get some help soon!
