Waiting for breast biopsy, out of my mind with worry

hi everyone, I noticed a lump on my right breast and went to breast clinic. I'm 33 so they did an ultrasound - they said there is a patchy lump about 3cm big and that 2 lymph nodes look swollen on the ultrasound (but not to touch).

I panicked and immediately assumed cancer and everyone else started talking like it's cancer too, saying stuff like 'we'll treat it' and that once the biopsy results come back I should be prepared that treatment will start quickly.

I'm in total panic mode, can't eat or sleep and feel sick constantly, I don't know how I'm going to get through until biopsy results.

I'd like to know, can they tell from an ultrasound whether it's cancer? I thought that's why you need a biopsy? I'm literally out of mind worrying about this :(

Thanks for your help xx

  • Waiting for results are hard. Take care

  • Found a lump in right boob 3 weeks ago went to docs a week later who confirmed a lump was def there. Put me through for an urgent referral to breast clinic who rang me within 48hrs for app.

My app is tomo at breast clinic and im totally beside mysef with worry, havent slept properly since doc confirmed the lum . Dont know what to expect at the clinic, doc tells you not to worry but how can you not worry. Ive got a 13yr daughter who obviously does not know whats going on. I have a 24 yr daughter who I felt i should tell so she was prepared incase its bad news. 2 grand children age 1 and 2 weeks old.

The not knowing is torture the closer tomo comes the more sick i feel. Do i found out tomo or do i have this lingering over xmas???

  • Hi Josie highly unlikely they will be able to tell you for definite without biopsy unless ultra sound shows cyst. They do have a good idea of what is going on. This is a bad time of year as lab staff will go off for festive holiday with only emergencies being investigated. However who knows it depends on medical team. What I do know is having been through biopsy surgery chemo then targeted therapy that there is s lot of hope for even worst case scenarios. Try hard to enjoy Christmas I know it's hard but put your faith in the medics they really do know what they are doing and would not wilfully put you at risk. Take care and I will be thinking of you. Also once you know what you are dealing with sharing with others who are going through treatments or further on will offer you support. A
