Ive just received abnormal smear results and i have symptoms of advanced cervical cancer

Hi im hoping for some advice,

Ive suffered from heavy periods all my life, yet 7 months ago i started experiencing large clots, also i started suffereing from fizzing/numbness constantly in my right leg, and constant lower dull back pain, along with bleeding inbetween my periods. I 'googled' these and found they are all symptoms of advanced cervical cancer !!!!

I took myself to the doctors for a smear test and my results have just come back as High-grade dyskaryosis!

Im convinced i have advanced cancer now and am awaiting a coloscopy in 3 weeks time.

Did anybody else experience these symptoms before their test also? Or am i right in thinking mine has probably already progressed??

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

  • Hi everyone I'm looking for some support ,, I've had a letter after a smear saying they found abnormal cells and I have to go for a colopscopy, I've been having belly pains  , pain in my legs and swollen lymph gland in my groin, I'm soo worried I feel sick ,,  did any of you get any good results etc I know it was August for some of you now it's December please get back to me xxx

  • Hi,

Sorry to hear you're worried, I completely understand how you feel as I felt the exact same. I had abnormal bleeding, bleeding after sex, pelvic pain and a few other symptoms. I had abnormal cells and a colposcopy in August. He took a biopsy and everything was absolutely fine. I now am back to have my smear test once every three years. I continued having symptoms and has worried myself so sick I had made myself more unwell. In the end I went privately to see a specialist gynaecology and I had a cyst and pockets of fluid, which was removed via laparoscopy a month or so ago.  Again he sent it away to be tested and it was all fine. I just wanted to share my story with you to reassure you that there can be a good outcome and I'm sure it will be the same for you. The waiting around can be horrible and it's hard not to think the worst, but your symptoms can be symptoms of so many other things. I wish you good luck and all the best :) xx

  • Thank you for getting back to me soo quickly, it's the worrying and waiting which is the worst, I'm soo glad all was okay for you , I really hope the same for me , I have 4 children latest one 9 months old, I couldn't bear to think what could happen , I'm a natural worrier soo this is over my head thinking and worrying,, I couldn't sleep last night due to thinking soo much

  • Hi

I've had my results back on 13th of dec from my smear test saying I have HPV and borderline abnormal cells. I have my hosp appointment for my colposcopy on 13th January all I've done is worry. I have had abnormal bleeding for past year and half and docs just kept putting me off. Has anyone had abnormal bleeding, HPV and borderline changes and been ok? I'm thinking the worst I'm a single parent with two children just thinking the worst. If someone could get back to me please.

  • I’m going through the exact same things did you get your results I’m petrified :(

  • Hi all, I've had abnormal results yearly for the last 10 years, luckily 8 of those times have been low grade changes, first time I was diagnosed it was high grade and had to have some treatment, I had colposcopy again on 27th of November... been treated by gynaecologist for miscarriages and very heavy periods but nothing found yet, again have an app with them for latest test results next Wednesday but I have panicked about my latest biopsies as they have said at least cin 2, phoned again today and they've said I should have results tomorrow afternoon when I call so I shall let you all know (who are very concerned on this matter) I know how distressing this is can feel ladies.

  • Hi

I went it wasn't too bad, u got my results on the day the nurse said it was very low changed cells and would be due to me having HPV and I've got to go back in a years time for a smear to see if these have gone back to normal.  Try not to stress to much easier said then done tho. Hope everything goes ok for you let me know how you get on x

  • Thanks for replying to me I hope ur results are ok. It's such a scary waiting time isn't it. I hope they come back ok. Let me know how you get on x

Hi, I don't know if this thread is still going but I had heavy irregular painful periods for past year.  I went to the doc and tried contraceptive pill and then got coil fitted around 3 months ago. Since then I've had bleeding/spotting most days for the first 8 weeks.  I had a smear done while in for coil fitting and got results back to say I  had low grade abnormal results + hpv. I asked nurse about this when in for coil check up and she said not to worry I'd get an apt in post that of it was serious they would have me in sooner and that bleeding is normal after a coil fitting and would settle.  It's now nearly 3 months later and I've still no apppintment. I know outpatients has stopped since the covid pandemic but I have had really bad lower back (sciatica type) pain for the past month. Not sleeping with it at night and not able to exercise (normally very active) I also have lower abdomen pain - a bit like dull period pain and always tired although that may come down to not sleeping.  The bleeding has stopped and I now just have spotting and a light period.  I dont  know if I should ring my doc as they are really busy at this time and only want to see emergencies or leave it until I get my colposcopy appointment .
