Ive just received abnormal smear results and i have symptoms of advanced cervical cancer

Hi im hoping for some advice,

Ive suffered from heavy periods all my life, yet 7 months ago i started experiencing large clots, also i started suffereing from fizzing/numbness constantly in my right leg, and constant lower dull back pain, along with bleeding inbetween my periods. I 'googled' these and found they are all symptoms of advanced cervical cancer !!!!

I took myself to the doctors for a smear test and my results have just come back as High-grade dyskaryosis!

Im convinced i have advanced cancer now and am awaiting a coloscopy in 3 weeks time.

Did anybody else experience these symptoms before their test also? Or am i right in thinking mine has probably already progressed??

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

  • Hi Bec

  • Hi I'm a mum of two girls I'm 26... I'm getting.the symptoms of little bit of blood after sex not everytime and bit of back pain and also I'm currently experiencing fuzzy knumb feeling down my right leg.. I've had tests and still waiting on my results.... I'm so scared... I feel ever so silly saying I'm scared... But I keep thinking the worste.. X
  • i have so many bad symptoms, i don't know where to start... urinal infections 3 years ago during my last pregnancy lots of white dicharge for the last 2 months, stomach pains and yesterday blood spotting after sex. now i am waiting for smear results, but i don't see whatelse could explain all those symptoms... i regret not having look at it earlier. i have 2 young kids and the future seems so dark
  • I also received an abnormal result last Friday after a few months of spotting between periods and slight bleeding occasionally after sex, back pain and pains in my right leg. I'm a 39 year old single mother to three girls ( the youngest having severe learning difficulties). I have always had troublesome periods ( heavy and irregular) but I just felt something wasn't right lately despite being up to date with my smears, and so my result wasn't a total shock. I think I was half expecting it. However, it's safe to say I'm terrified at this point especially as my mother died of cancer at roughly my age. I've always been terribly independent but I didn't realise how alone I would feel... My letter was very vague. It just stated that an abnormality was found. I suppose all I can do is wait for the colposcopy appointment. I'm driving myself mad already. Xx
  • Hi I've just read this thread - and I have seen your reply -I feel this is exactly the same situation as me, except I am waiting for the colp appt to come through. I just wanted to know how you got on? I am freaking myself out - I feel silly as I feel like I should be preparing for the worst but YET have little reason to.
  • I my name is Stephanie and I have same symptoms you had. My back pain is real bad. Want to hear about your results
  • Hi, reading this thread is reassuring me that I’m not on my own with what I’m going through. I’m a 38 year old mum of 2 and last October found out we were unexpectedly pregnant and went through all of the emotions attached to this, got used to what was happening and was told in mid November I’d had a miscarriage, I was regularly monitored in terms of HGC until just before Christmas and discharged (even though I’d hardly bled) they said my body would sort it’s self out, I had a day just after Christmas of extremely heavy bleeding and clots and was told that would have been the miscarriage. I was put back on the pill in January and in the middle of January started bleeding and didn’t stop for 5 weeks, they got me in for a scan which showed the pregnancy was still there and had developed further and would do an emergency ERPC, when they examined me I was told I had a 2cm mass on my cervix and asked if I was uptodate with my smear, which I was. I was petrified and though all sorts my mum had a mass a couple of years older than me in the same place and it was found to be cancer, she survived it and had a radical hysterectomy. They took a biopsy of the mass whilst doing the ERPC and found abnormal cells, I had a call 2 weeks later and was in with the consultant the next day, he did a loop diathermy and colposcopy and removed the mass and said he had given me a treatment to prevent cervical cancer, but it didn’t matter what it was because it’s gone! 2 weeks later I receive a letter and missed calls saying the mass was found to contain late stage CIN3 and the tests showed they hadn’t got it all, ge has booked me in for another loop diathermy and biopsy for the end of the month to remove any cells left. I don’t get it he said it was gone and nothing to worry about but now he’s using the words precancerous and spread, my mums smear cane back completely normal when she had cancer (she has contacted her doctor to find out what she had) what if there are more cells that have progressed to cancer, I have a lot of the symptoms, pelvic pain, low back pain (I had SPD with my son 7 years ago, the bleeding and discharge won’t stop but I’m only 3 weeks since the procedure. I feel so scared and I’m trying to put a brave face on but it seems so unfair I’ve got to go through the procedure again and wait again x

  • Hi Bec29,

How did your coloscopy go?? I hope it went well and all was okay with the result??

I have just recently received an abnormal smear, severe it says. I'm booked in on the 29th of April for my coloscopy and I am honestly petrified I really hope I'm okay, can't stop thinking the worst! All my smears I've had have always come back normal. Last October I found out I had had a missed miscarriage and had a manual vacuum aspiration  ever since that I've had nothing but problems with down below, I'm not sure if I have some sort of infection there or what. I've been in hospital with haurendoes abdominal pain and couldn't walk, the pain was really lower down and then kinda radiated all over my tummy but was worse closer to my pelvis. I was told I had a kidney infection? And was given antibiotics for this. My bloods showed high white blood cells which indicated infection but from my symptoms the treated for a kidney infection. I'm still not right now and this was end of March. I'm back on antibiotics because my doctor tested my pee and this showed infection  again...I just do not think I have had a kidney infection or I have a UTI....I think it's more than that and maybe I have an infection within my lady parts but just do not know what this could be.

Sorry for the essay, just so worried. I've also had small spotting, pelvic pain, pain in my left leg, my tummy is bloated all the time especially after eating I've had discharge but nothing unusual but I have had alot more recently. It's hard not to worry, it really is. I know there's nothing I can do until the 29th its waiting and not knowing

  • Hi, I had low grade abnormal results + hpv and have been experiencing brown discharge and pelvic/lower back pains for about 3 weeks. I am absolutely beside myself with worry. I have a colposcopy booked in for next Tuesday and an ultrasound the following week but I have a little baby and I’m petrified of the worst case scenario! How are you all and what were the outcomes? Xx

  • Hello , I have just received my smear test results today. I am positive for hpv and I have abnormal cells and have to await a coloscopy appointment I’m so scared. I’ve never had an abnormal smear previously and i thinking the worst as there is no one report there stories with positive outcomes all posts state they are worried etc but not what the outcome was I would love to hear some positive outcomes if possible.
