Worried about abnormal breast biopsy result

I went for a routine breast mammogram and received a letter asking to come back for further tests. At the callback appointment, they found cysts, which they drained, and took a biopsy.

Three weeks later, the biopsy results came back benign, but they wanted me to return for further investigations. I had another biopsy, this time of a larger area.

I’ve just received the results. One biopsy has come back benign, but the other has been reported as abnormal. The nurse explained that this doesn’t necessarily mean anything is wrong, but naturally I’m really worried.

I have severe health anxiety, and not knowing what the abnormal result means is really getting to me. Has anyone experienced something similar, where a biopsy came back abnormal but turned out not to be cancer?

I’d really appreciate hearing about other people’s experiences, especially if you’ve been through the UK breast screening callback process.

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling so anxious ahead of your next appointment despite the reassurance that the breast care nurse has offered. We know that waiting for more information can be difficult, and particularly so when you already struggle with health anxiety.

I can see that you've been chatting with other community members already, and they have offered some words of support and advice.

In the meantime, there is useful information on the NHS website about managing health anxiety that may help you while you wait for further news.

I do hope that you get the reassurance you need soon.

    Best wishes,
