Armpit lump, breast clinic tmrw

Hi All

Nervous as I have breast clinic tmrw.

Im 44, so am expecting a mammogram and ultrasound. This is why im especially nervous, as I know how painful they can be.

I noticed a red and sore lump under my armpit about 11 weeks ago. I have health anxiety , so was trying to leave it two weeks before i went to the Drs. By the time I went, at about week 4, it had shrunk to about the size of a grain of rice, from the size if a pea (can pick up the skin and it moves with it, no longer red and sore and remained that size). Dr wasnt worried. Went away still not knowing what it is- resolving cyst/shot lymph node etc , so went back just over a week ago. Felt, what I thought was a lump in other breast , but it had gone over a few days, and dr said it was the same.on the other side so thought it may be a lumpy part of my rib xage lol (not officially diagnosed with costrochrondritis but get rib pain and have done for a few years). Was referred to urgent breast clinic appt, as Dr said I could if i wanted, but again wasnt worried herself.

I have fibrocystic breasts and fibromyalgia anyway, as had a mamaogram a few years ago and they told me. Extra worried as I had a shadow on the mamaogram last time and they retook, i know now because of the fibrocystic breasts. However, worried this may happen again and cause my anxiety to rocket in clinic. Also worried they may find something i dont know is there. I end up feeling pain and discomfort in places thats prob not there due to my anxiety, and my fibromyalgia amplifies it- making me feel I have something incurable everytime I read something on good old google! Letter came with 'suspected breast cancer on it as well, so made me more stressed.

Thanks for reading, will update

  • Hi Gamermum2026.

A very warm welcome to the forum.

I am sorry to hear how stressed you are and hope that they can put your mind to rest when you attend the clinic tomorrow.

All referrals to the breast clinic are because of suspected breast cancer, although only 20% of those who attend get a cancer diagnosis. It is unusual to have breast pain with cancer and I am glad to hear that both areas of concern have settled down.  Some of us get changes around the time of our period and I wonder if this is what you've noticed?  Not all breast lumps are cancerous. Some women have naturally lumpy breasts, benign cysts or fibroadenoma,.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you and hoping for good news. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
