Painful breast - had a clear mammogram and ultrasound didn't show anything but I'm still in pain. What should I do?

Hi. I had a mastectomy/chemo and radiotherapy 5 years ago. I now have pain in my other breast. I had a clear mammogram but told the nurse about the pain so they gave me a n ultrasound but couldn't see anything. I am obviously relieved but I am still in pain and don't know why. Any thoughts? I nad my ovaries out so not sure if it could still be hormone related. Not really sure what to do x

  • Hello Harker1,

I think it's very reassuring news that you had a clear mammogram and that the ultrasound didn't flag anything of concern either. You did the right thing though to bring this up as soon as you noticed the pain in the other breast. As you are still worried and experiencing the pain, it might be worth talking to your GP about it as it sounds like you need answers and reassurance as to what this pain might be. Mention to your doctor that you've had all these tests and they were clear as week as your history of breast cancer from 5 years ago and that you had your ovaries out and are wondering if it could be hormone related. If you feel that no one is giving you clear answers that put your mind at ease,  it might be worth getting a second opinion.

It does sound though like reassuring news and I bet you are indeed relieved but it's totally normal to still want to understand what might be causing this pain. Other members of our community might have thoughts on this that they are willing to share and I will let them come and say hello and share their story with you.
