Post Smear period

Hi!

So I'm 31F, and I have had period issues since I was about 15. Nothing fully diagnosed with anything, and when I am not on the mini-pill (Cerelle), I bleed for about 10 weeks at a time, pretty heavily. But I have been on the Cerelle for a few years, and I do still get a period, but only every 6 months or so. I have NAFLD, insulin resistance, IIH, and more. But even with a transvaginal ultrasound, no obvious signs of what is causing the issues.

I had a smear test two weeks ago, and since around 2017, I've had signs of cervical ectropion, and at the smear the nurse did confirm it, and advised I likely have a tilted uterus too.

As is common for me, my cervix started bleeding as soon as the smear test was being done. I know that this happens to others too and usually is over after a few days.

However, I am still bleeding, and cramping. I'm guessing its likely my period just coincidentally occurring the day after. But its still concerning.

I do have a gynaecologist referral again but its not until April (sadly), and I don't really have a GP, they just book me in with whoever is free, which is always a little frustrating as my backstory is LONG, haha.

Anyway, I just wanted to know thoughts and opinions, should I be concerned and call the GP, or should I wait for April?

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some unexpected bleeding following your recent cervical smear. It's understandable that you're feeling concerned.

As you say, this may well be coincidental and related to your period, but as it's quite some time until your next appointment with the specialist, and you are feeling anxious, do give your GP surgery a call. Hopefully they will be able to give you some reassurance sooner.
