Colonoscopy - husband has been told he needs one to rule out malignancy. How worried should we be?

Hi my husband was recently diagnosis with acute diverticulitis via CT and the possibility of a small abscess developing around the colon. He has to have review CT to see if abscess has shrank and also a colonoscopy to rule out malignancy as the bowel wall is thickened . When in hospital he was told he had an abscess and just would need a colonoscopy. Nothing was mentioned about malignancy . How worried should we be

I'm sorry to hear that your husband has recently had some health problems which needed further investigation. It's understandable that you may be feeling anxious about this additional colonoscopy to further check your husband's colon and hopefully rule out a malignancy.

We know that for many people, this period of waiting and uncertainty can be difficult and it's natural to have questions and concerns. Has the team given you any idea how long he may have to wait for the CT scan and colonoscopy? Hopefully it won't be too long before the specialist can give you both some reassurance.

In the meantime, if it would help to talk things through with one of our nurses, you're most welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do keep in touch Lee8705 and let us know how things go. We're here for you.

Sending you both my best wishes,
