Bowel cancer symptoms?

Hi all. Reading a lot of posts on here recently and wanted to put my symptoms up to see if anyone had similar ones! Dealt with constipation all my life.

Few months ago, I started passing pencil thin stools. Would be like for a week then fine then back to them again along with a lot of mucas when I whipped. A lot of the times I wouldn’t be able to pass but would get mucas when whipping even though I didn’t go. I was extremely bloated.

Went to the doctors 3 weeks ago for tirdness and short of breath. Doctor was brilliant and checked my stomach out as well. Sent me home with a FIT test, Calprotectin test. The FIT test came back positive with a level of 17 and my Calprotectin test was fine. Also my bloods came back fine. Iron was all good.

Then I started taking Dulcolex to shift me. The first 2 to 3 days were good. Was getting diarrhoea and felt a lot better. Stomach wasn’t as bloated. But then I started seeing patches of blood in my stools and on the toilet paper and I started to get constipated again even with taking Dulcolex.

Now, I am constipated and have trouble to pass wind as well, the pain is bad and it comes and goes like waves of it.

I have a colonoscopy booked for November 17th. The wait is killing me and I’m not sure what else to take or do. Taking probiotics and stuff for trapped wind and nothing is working. I still am facing extreme tiredness and I’m not too sure why along with shortness of breath of breath.

I do not have any weight loss but I do experience still feeling like I have to go even though I’ve went almost every single time I go.

I am very worried. 29 year old male.

  • Hi Jude664 and welcome to the forum.

I'm really sorry to hear about your symptoms and how troublesome they are being whilst you wait for your colonoscopy.

If you haven't done so already, make sure you let your GP know that they have got worse as they may be able to prescribe a medication that will make things more manageable whilst you wait. You could also trying getting in touch with the colonoscopy department to let them know you're willing to take any cancellations that pop up to try and bring your appointment forward. There's no guarantee this will work but there's no harm in trying, especially if you're worried about how you're going to get on over the next 3 weeks.

Hopefully some of our members will offer their thoughts and advice to you soon but if it would help to talk any of this through with one of our cancer nurses, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to help.

We're sending you all our support Jude664 and wishing you all the best with your colonoscopy next month.

    Kind regards,
