Skin cancer - does getting results over the phone instead of face to face mean it's good news?

My husband has been told he has 2 different types of skin cancer in the same area on his face (cheek ) 1 is aggressive and the other is non aggressive. But they are not sure of the composition of it. He first had the lump removed at the beginning of April 2026 at our local doctors and the results took around 16 weeks to come back. But the lump came back within 4 weeks after the first removal and we went back to the Drs and the nurse practitioner said its nothing to worry about its just a cyst and refused to refer him.

He had the lump removed 7 weeks ago and its just been to the the Mdt panel to discuss the results and we have been told hes waiting for an telephone appointment with the skin cancer nurse.

Is this good news that the nurse is going to give him the results over the phone and not face to face?

  • Hi Sara2010,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

Unfortunately it's not possible to know what the nurse might say - the process can vary across different hospitals or situations, or may be dependent on waiting lists etc.

It sounds like you've been dealing with a lot of uncertainty about this, as well as some frustrations and confusion possibly from what you've been told. I hope it's not long until you find out more and have an opportunity to ask any questions.

You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of our nurses about this. If you'd like to do that, you can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,
