Worried about ovarian cancer

Hi, im 51 and going through the menopause - unsure what stage as been on mini pill for 10+ years so not had periods in all that time. I have had a dull pain in my lower abdomen/groin area for quite a few.months but thought was muscular so didnt worry. Five weeks ago this pain changed and became more of a stabbing Pain for around 48 hrs then subsided to its usual dull ache. A week later I started bleeding quite heavy and that lasted for 9 days.

I went to see my gp and she examined me and did an urgent gynae referral on what was the 2ww. No appts were available so my first appt is next week - 4 weeks after seen my gp.

In addition to the above, I have no/reduced appetite, tired all the time, passing water more frequently and urgently and weight increasing despite eating less.

My CA125 was normal but I know it isnt always raised.

I was also referred for US scan on pelvis but that appt hasn't come through yet.

Am I worrying too much?

Thanks

  • Hi KBH123,

You did the right thing to go and see the GP and it's good that she was thorough and that an urgent scan has been requested. I hope that all goes well next week with your appointment. It's normal to be worried and I hope that you can get all these issues checked properly. It's important to bear in mind too that there are so many conditions that could be causing these symptoms other than cancer and it's reassuring news too that your CA125 results are normal. So try if you can not to anticipate the worst and not to look things up online as this will only make you feel more worried without providing any reliable answers.

The hardest thing in your situation is the long wait sometimes for appointments to come through and I hope that you get some news soon as to when your ultrasound might be. While you are waiting, I thought I would share with you our helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news which will give you some good coping strategies during this anxious time.

I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have been in a similar place before and that they will pop by and share their experience with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that you find out more soon and that it will all turn out to be nothing of concern,

  • Thanks for your reply. I am trying not to worry but as my appt gets closer, I can't seem to think of anything else. So many scenarios flying round in my head.  I did get a call this afternoon to say a cancellation had opened up for my USS on Sunday so thats something positive.

  • Completely understandable that you can't think of anything else as the appointment gets closer and it's hard sometimes to focus even on simple things. It really is a positive thing though that a cancellation has opened up for your ultrasound scan as the quicker you are seen, the quicker it will be that you get answers. It's great that they do these scans on Sundays now!

Best of luck for Sunday - keep us updated if you get a chance,
