Frustrated

I am so frustrated, this is the second time the NHS have refused my GPS referral for an ultrasound.

I have a lymph node in my neck that I noticed over a year ago, my gp referred me at the time and that was declined so I ended up paying private.

I now have 3 lymph nodes in my groin, smaller than a pea but this has also been refused, so now I have to look at paying private for my peace of mind.

My health anxiety it through the roof, I’ve stared to get knee pain, both knees but it alternates and goes down my calf into my ankles and worried it could be something sinister

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some concerns about lymph nodes in your groin and that, despite your GP asking for an ultrasound to be carried out, the radiology department has refused to accept the referral. It's understandable that you're feeling worried, especially if you also struggle with health anxiety.

It may be worth getting in touch with the hospital PALS team and asking for some clarification on why the referrals have been refused. It's part of their role to help resolve concerns or problems when you're using the NHS, and hopefully they will be able to get some clarification for you.

I'd also really encourage you to talk with your GP about the anxiety that you're feeling about your health. There is some useful information and self-help advice on the NHS page about managing health anxiety but if you've tried these and are still struggling, then your GP may want to talk about further support that might be available.

If it would help to chat things through with one of our nurses, you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Fridya 9am to 5pm.

I do hope that you can get some reassurance soon.

    Best wishes,
