Lump in rectum, waiting for colonoscopy.

HI, I think like most of us I just want to chat. Had constipation for last few weeks, felt like forever, went to GP back and forth, tried Movicol as GP said there was blockage in my colon. Ysterday I went to GP again as after increasing Movicol all I had is just watery stools, nothing like normal stool. He did rectal examination and said there is a lump there, and refered me for urgent colonoscopy.I am obviously worried, my tummy feel massive almost all the time, and GP said there is no blockage, just gas. I don't know even why I am writing here. My friends say "It will be ok, we had colonoscopies and it was all fine", yeah, but did you have a lump? And you cannot say it will be ok, because you simply don't know. It is just a shock. I went to GP thinking I will get something stronger for constipation, didn't expect that.

  • Hi Betti- I can understand your concern but in some ways it’s a good thing that your GP has taken the belts & braces approach & referred you for further tests.  A lump doesn’t necessarily mean you have cancer & only after you have had all the relevant tests will you know exactly what the problem is.  Whilst we wait for tests our minds go into overdrive thinking of all the worst out comes possible which is a normal human reaction when you are worried.  There will always be someone on this forum who has been in a similar position who I am sure can give you their experience & help to put your mind at rest.  Take care xx

  • Thank you so much for your reply. It was just a shock, as I didn't have any red flag symptomps, well not the ones to tell you to go to A&E:-)

I will be happy to get colonoscopy date and get on with it. Didn't really tell anyone apart friends from work as I don't want to make a big deal out of it.

Thank you again for your reply, I will try to update after colonoscopy.
