Hi Doormat,
A very warm welcome to the forum.
A lot depends upon what the Consultant finds and whether or not a biopsy is taken. If it is, you are likely to have to wait a few weeks for the results.
When I attended, I spoke to the consultant and told him how long I'd had the lesion for. He examined it and decided to carry out a biopsy. I had a local anaesthetic and I then had a few stitches in the area that the biopsy was taken from and told to return to get the stitches removed the following week. I was told that it would take about 8 weeks to get another appointment for my biopsy results.
When I went to get the stitches removed, I told the nurse how anxious I was about the results. She went away to speak to the consultant and he came in to tell me that it was benign. I understand that the delay in getting dermatology results is because this tends to be a very busy department in most hospitals. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on.
I sincerely hope that all turns out well for you and that nothing untoward is found. We are always here for you.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
Thankyou for taking the time to reply … I feel terrified and need to know the outcome as soon as possible will they have no indication at my appointment? If I have a biopsy I suppose this is serious
Hi Doormat,
Dealing with the unknown is one of the hardest parts of our cancer journey. It is unfortunately impossible to predict whether or not you'll be told the possible outcome at your appointment. Sometimes the consultant can tell you if cancer is suspected, but a biopsy is still needed to determine if the lesion is cancerous or benign. This does not mean that it is serious. It is a routine test to ensure that nothing is overlooked.
Keeping my fingers crossed for good news.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
