You will probably see a nurse first and she will take your details. After this you will see a consultant, who will examine you. You may then have a mammogram, an ultrasound and biopsy. Some consultants then see you again before you leave, while others wait until your biopsy results come back. This can take anything from 1-3 weeks. It is the biopsy results which determine whether you have cancer or not, so you're unlikely to know for certain until they're back. Younger people (under 40) don't always have a mammogram, because their breasts tend to be denser and don't show up well with this type of scan. In such cases, you are likely to have an ultrasound.
