Lump on thigh

At the end of July I noticed what I thought was a fatty lump on the top of my right thigh. Since July it's got significantly larger, i went to the doctor on the 16th August,  the doctor said she didn't know what it was and keep an eye on it. I wasn't happy with that so I book another appointment,  had that appointment on the 14th September, i was sent for an ultrasound on the 22nd September,  the radiologist said it's a muscle, I queried how a muscle is growing when I'm not training it, and also queried why is it growing. I have pain in my hip and pain down my leg.  I am now waiting for MRI. I'm worried because muscle don't just grow. Anyone had anything similar?

  • Hi Kelly_18,

I think you did the right thing to show this fatty lump on the top of your right thigh to the doctor and to book another appointment when the doctor said to just keep an eye on it. It sound like this other appointment was more useful as they sent you for an ultrasound on the 22nd September. It's good that they are being thorough and that you will have an MRI soon and hopefully this will shed some light on what is going on. I am not sure really about the muscle but it might be worth asking this question to your GP who will be able to explain to you whether what the radiologist told you makes sense.

I hope that you will hear from others on here who have had something similar and that they will pop by and share their story with you. Waiting to have tests and then results and then again for a definite diagnosis can be nerve racking and I hope that you won't have to wait too long for the MRI. While you are waiting, I thought I would share with you these helpful strategies to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I hope that you get some clarity on this very soon and that it all turns out to be nothing of concern.

    Best wishes,
